He was robed in a cloud, with a rainbow above his head; his face was like the sun, and his legs were like fiery pillars.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He was holding a little scroll, which lay open in his hand. He planted his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land,<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and he gave a loud shout like the roar of a lion. When he shouted, the voices of the seven thunders spoke.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And when the seven thunders spoke, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven say, &#8220;Seal up what the seven thunders have said and do not write it down.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses\u00a01-4: \u00a0Revelation\u00a0is full of strange and awesome creatures: living creatures, fallen angels, the scariest locusts ever, crazy \u201chorses\u201d, the list goes on.\u00a0 Sometimes I think that if Pokemon could be transported into the world of\u00a0Revelation, Pikachu, Charmander and all their Pokemon friends would look at some of the creatures in\u00a0Revelation\u00a0and think, \u201cThey\u2019re so weird.\u201d\u00a0 Here in these verses we meet the next awesome creature in\u00a0Revelation:\u00a0 a mighty angel whose shout like a lion causes the voices of the \u201cseven thunders\u201d to speak (v3).\u00a0 What are the seven thunders?\u00a0 It is not clear.\u00a0 Also, it is not clear to us what they said because John is commanded by a voice from heaven to seal up what the seven thunders said and not to write it down (v4).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0 There is good news from heaven that God wants us to share with everyone.\u00a0 That good news is summed up by John 3:16: God loved the world so much that He gave His only Son Jesus, and whoever believes in Jesus will not perish but have eternal life.\u00a0 But\u00a0<strong>there may be times in your relationship with God when God may tell you something that He wants you to keep between you and Him.\u00a0 That\u2019s what intimate friendships are like.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Close friends know and keep each other\u2019s secrets.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation\u00a010:5-7 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then the angel I had seen standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And he swore by him who lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it, and the sea and all that is in it, and said, &#8220;There will be no more delay!<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But in the days when the seventh angel is about to sound his trumpet, the mystery of God will be accomplished, just as he announced to his servants the prophets.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 5-7:\u00a0 The mighty angel then swears to God (the One \u201cwho lives for ever and ever, who created the heavens and all that is in them, the earth and all that is in it\u201d) (v6a) and proclaims that there will be no more delay in accomplishing all that God said He would do through the prophets (v6b-7).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God is the Almighty Creator.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n2.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God keeps His Word.<\/strong><br \/>\n3.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God finishes what He starts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Likewise, since you are made in God\u2019s image:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Use the creative power you have to bring life and not death to the people and environment around you.\u00a0 Use the power God has given you for good.<\/strong><br \/>\n2.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Keep your word.<\/strong><br \/>\n3.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Finish what you start.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation\u00a010:8-11 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then the voice that I had heard from heaven spoke to me once more: &#8220;Go, take the scroll that lies open in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So I went to the angel and asked him to give me the little scroll. He said to me, &#8220;Take it and eat it. It will turn your stomach sour, but in your mouth it will be as sweet as honey.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I took the little scroll from the angel&#8217;s hand and ate it. It tasted as sweet as honey in my mouth, but when I had eaten it, my stomach turned sour.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then I was told, &#8220;You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 8-11:\u00a0 John is told to take the scroll from the hand of the mighty angel.\u00a0 John approaches the angel and asks for the scroll.\u00a0 The angel tells John to take it and eat it, promising that it will be sweet to his taste but sour for his stomach.\u00a0 John finds that to be the case.\u00a0 He is told to prophesy again about many peoples, nations, languages and kings.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0 There are some important lessons here, especially for those of us who want to communicate God\u2019s Word to others effectively.<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0 Notice that before he was told to prophesy, John had to eat the scroll (which represents the Word of God).\u00a0 Similarly,\u00a0<strong>the Word of God needs to become a part of you \u2013 you need to eat it, possess it, digest it and have it on the inside of you \u2013 before you can effectively and powerfully get it out.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Every day eat the Word of God.\u00a0 As Jesus says, \u201cMan shall not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God\u201d (Matthew 4:4).<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0 The scroll was sweet to John\u2019s taste and then sour for John\u2019s stomach.\u00a0 Likewise, I find that receiving, preparing and delivering a Biblical message that God can use to impact others is a \u201csweet and sour\u201d process.\u00a0 There are parts of that process that are fun and exciting (\u201csweet\u201d), and there are parts of that process that are painful and difficult (\u201csour&#8221;).\u00a0 It can be like making a baby &#8212; there&#8217;s the fun part of conceiving it, and then there&#8217;s the hard part of carrying, letting it grow in you and delivering it.\u00a0 But in the end to see newborn babies come out at the end of that process and to watch lives changed by the power of God makes the labor all worth it.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of sweet and sour, you&#8217;ll find that some parts of God&#8217;s Word are sweet and enjoyable to receive, while other parts of God&#8217;s Word can be sour and difficult to hear and receive.\u00a0 But\u00a0<strong>God&#8217;s Word comes in one package.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t just pick the sweet and discard the sour.\u00a0 We need it all in order to be healthy believers in God&#8217;s kingdom.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0 If John was only a bit younger than Jesus and if\u00a0Revelation\u00a0was written in approximately 95 A.D., then by this point John is close to 100 years old.\u00a0 Yet God calls John to \u201cprophesy again\u00a0about many peoples, nations, languages and kings\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>You are never too old (or too young) to be used by God.\u00a0 As long as there is breath in your lungs, God has a plan to use your life to bless others.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Father, thank You that I am fearfully and wonderfully created by You.\u00a0 Thank You for making me for a great purpose.\u00a0 I proclaim that I am born to be a blessing.\u00a0 As long as there is breath in me, may I be a blessing to those around me.\u00a0 Like You, may I use the power I have to speak life to others, keeping my word and finishing the race You have given me to run.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2021 Justin Lim.
