With justice he judges and makes war.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse\u00a011:\u00a0 Here John sees an awesome picture of Jesus.\u00a0 In the Gospel of John 12:14-15, John described Jesus entering Jerusalem on a donkey, which is what kings would ride on during peace time.\u00a0 Now when we see Jesus on a white war horse, it&#8217;s because Jesus means war and judges with justice.\u00a0 The suffering servant who died to bring us peace is now the conquering king who lives to judge with justice and defeat his enemies.<\/p>\n<p>Also, in verses\u00a011\u00a0through 16, we will learn 4 names of Jesus.\u00a0 The first name is here: Faithful and True.\u00a0 Like you and me, Jesus is known by His character.\u00a0 Unlike anyone else, Jesus is completely faithful (to His people, to His promises) and completely true (there\u2019s no deceit or deception in Him).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>19<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:12a (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 12a:\u00a0 While on earth Jesus was known for having eyes of compassion (e.g. Mark 6:34; Matthew 9:36).\u00a0 Here Jesus\u2019 eyes are like blazing fire.\u00a0 While on earth Jesus wore a crown of thorns.\u00a0 Now his head is crowned with many crowns.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>19<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:12b (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0\u2026He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 12b:\u00a0 The second name of Jesus we learn from these verses is here: \u201ca name written on him that no one knows but he himself\u201d (v12).\u00a0 Based on this I could imagine Jesus walking into a tattoo shop in heaven.\u00a0 He shows the tattoo artist some obscure writing and tells the artist to tattoo it on him.\u00a0 \u201cYour Majesty, what does this writing mean?\u201d the tattoo artist asks.\u00a0 \u201cIs this Your new name, Your Majesty?\u201d Jesus replies, \u201cThat\u2019s for you to wonder about and for Me to know.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from the fact that Jesus has a name that is only known to Him?\u00a0 Jesus is the self-defining, self-existent one.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t need anyone else to define Him.\u00a0 He is secure in who He is.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>19<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:13a (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 13a:\u00a0 In heaven it seems that all the people wear fine linen, white, bright and clean (see verse 14), except for One.\u00a0 Jesus\u2019 robe is stained (\u201cdipped\u201d) in His own blood.\u00a0 Jesus\u2019 blood stained robe, along with the scars He continues to have in heaven from His crucifixion, are a visual reminder that by His wounds we are healed and by His blood we are made clean.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Revelation<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>19<\/strong><strong>:13b (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><em><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0\u2026and his name is the Word of God.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 13b:\u00a0 Here&#8217;s the third name for Jesus we find in verses\u00a011-16:\u00a0 the Word of God.\u00a0 John loved calling Jesus \u201cthe Word\u201d.\u00a0 It was a name he frequently used for Jesus (e.g. John 1:1; 1 John 1:1).\u00a0 Do you have a favourite title or name for Jesus, one that you use most frequently when you pray to Him?\u00a0 \u201cLord\u201d is probably the most popular one today, but when you pray to Jesus I encourage you from time to time to address Him using His other names.\u00a0 For each name of Jesus emphasizes a different aspect of who He is.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>19<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:14 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 14:\u00a0 Jesus was the greatest leader earth has ever known.\u00a0 Jesus is also the greatest leader heaven has ever seen.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>19<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:15 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. &#8220;He will rule them with an iron scepter.&#8221; He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 15: \u00a0I love this powerful image of a sharp sword coming out of our King\u2019s mouth to strike down His enemies.\u00a0 When Jesus was tempted by the devil, He would use the Word of God to fight back (Matthew 4).\u00a0 It&#8217;s no wonder the Word of God is called the sword of the Spirit (Ephesians 6:17).<\/p>\n<p>Just as Jesus defeats His enemies by the power of His word, so we can defeat our enemy Satan by the power of Jesus\u2019 word.<\/p>\n<p>Also, when verse 15 says that Jesus \u201ctreads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty\u201d, this means that Jesus is not just the dispenser of God\u2019s amazing grace but also the one who executes God\u2019s great wrath and judgment.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>19<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:16 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND\u00a0LORD\u00a0OF\u00a0LORDS.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 16:\u00a0 What a cool image.\u00a0 I could imagine Jesus\u2019 robe being almost like a hockey jersey with His title on the back: King of kings and Lord of lords.\u00a0 This is the fourth name of Jesus that we find in verses\u00a011-16.<\/p>\n<p>Now why is this title also written on Jesus\u2019 thigh?\u00a0 In the Bible the thigh is sometimes a symbol for reproduction.\u00a0 The fact that Jesus\u2019 title \u201cKing of Kings and Lord of lords\u201d is written on His thigh suggests to me that Jesus is in the business of reproducing royalty.\u00a0 Through Christ we are not only children in God\u2019s family but also princes and princesses in God\u2019s kingdom.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Revelation<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>19<\/strong><strong>:17-18 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<\/em><em><sup>17\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0And I saw an angel standing in the sun, who cried in a loud voice to all the birds flying in midair, &#8220;Come, gather together for the great supper of God,<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>18\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0so that you may eat the flesh of kings, generals, and mighty men, of horses and their riders, and the flesh of all people, free and slave, small and great.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 17-18:\u00a0 In\u00a0Revelation\u00a019:9 a great multitude in heaven sang about the \u201cwedding supper of the Lamb\u201d.\u00a0 Now in verse 17 an angel standing in the sun speaks of another supper \u2013 \u201cthe great supper of God\u201d (v17) \u2013 where the birds are invited to eat the flesh of God\u2019s enemies.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0 In the end, we will either eat with Jesus at His wedding banquet and live, or we will be eaten at the great supper of God and be destroyed.\u00a0 Whether we\u2019re at one supper or the other all depends on our faith: is our faith in Jesus or in ourselves?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Revelation<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>19<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>19<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>-21 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>19<\/sup>\u00a0<\/em><em>\u00a0Then I saw the beast and the kings of the earth and their armies gathered together to make war against the rider on the horse and his army.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0But the beast was captured, and with him the false prophet who had performed the miraculous signs on his behalf. With these signs he had deluded those who had received the mark of the beast and worshiped his image. The two of them were thrown alive into the fiery lake of burning sulfur.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0The rest of them were killed with the sword that came out of the mouth of the rider on the horse, and all the birds gorged themselves on their flesh.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses\u00a019-20:\u00a0 In a showdown for the ages, the beast from the sea (the anti-Christ) and his confederation of kings fights Jesus and His army.\u00a0 Jesus\u2019 army captures the beast from the sea (the anti-Christ) as well as the false prophet (the beast from the earth).\u00a0 Both of Satan\u2019s beasts are thrown alive into a lake of burning sulfur, while the rest of the anti-Christ\u2019s armies are killed with the sword coming out of Jesus\u2019 mouth.\u00a0 Answering the angel\u2019s invitation in verse 17-18, a multitude of birds feasts on the meat of Jesus\u2019 enemies.\u00a0 Jesus wins.<\/p>\n<p><em>To my Conquering King, the Lord above every lord, the self-defining one, crowned with many crowns, Faithful and True, the One whose blood washed away my sins, the One who dispenses God&#8217;s mercy and also delivers God&#8217;s judgment, I praise You for being the victor, the One who wins in the end.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2021 Justin Lim.
