Jesus&#8217; mother was there,<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and Jesus and his disciples had also been\u00a0<strong>invited<\/strong>\u00a0to the wedding.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-2:\u00a0 Jesus is about to do his first miracle of turning water into wine.\u00a0 And guess\u00a0who were the ones who got to experience it?\u00a0 It was those who invited Jesus, as well as those closest to him.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0<strong>If you want Jesus\u2019 involvement in a situation, invite Jesus into the situation.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0 Whenever you sincerely invite Jesus, you can count on Him to be there.\u00a0 Jesus always RSVP\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Also,\u00a0in your Bible you might want to underline the words \u201cthose closest to him\u201d.\u00a0 What\u2019s the lesson here?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>If you want Jesus\u2019 involvement in a situation, you need to get close to Jesus.<\/strong>\u00a0 If you don\u2019t get close to Jesus, you\u2019ll miss a lot of what Jesus is doing.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 2:3-5 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When the wine was gone, Jesus&#8217; mother said to him, &#8220;They have no more wine.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Dear woman, why do you involve me?&#8221; Jesus replied. &#8220;My time has not yet come.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0His mother said to the servants, &#8220;Do whatever he tells you.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 3-5:\u00a0 Mary, Jesus\u2019 mother, is at the wedding.\u00a0 When Mary finds out that the wine is gone, she goes to Jesus and\u00a0says, \u201cThey have no more wine\u201d.\u00a0 In other words, \u201cDo\u00a0something about it\u00a0Jesus!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jesus\u2019 response to Mary is interesting: \u201cDear woman, why do you involve me? My time has not yet come.\u201d\u00a0 Jesus\u2019 answer marks a transition in the relationship between Mary and Jesus. For years Mary was used to being in control of Jesus.\u00a0 But now Mary had to learn to let Jesus have control over her, especially as Jesus was now coming into his own as a public minister and as the Messiah.\u00a0 In verse 5, Mary clues into this fact and subtly surrenders to Jesus, saying to the servants, \u201cDo whatever\u00a0<em>he<\/em>\u00a0tells you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Stop trying to control Jesus and acting as if he exists to serve your purposes.\u00a0 Instead, let Jesus have his way with you and serve his purposes.\u00a0 That\u2019s when you will see Jesus going to work.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 2:6-7 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus said to the servants, &#8220;Fill the jars with water&#8221;; so they filled them to the brim.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 6-7:\u00a0 Jesus tells the servants to fill six ceremonial hand washing jars with water.\u00a0 Notice: that\u2019s\u00a0<em>all\u00a0<\/em>Jesus told them.\u00a0 Jesus didn\u2019t give the servants the whole plan.\u00a0 He just gave them the next step.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God won\u2019t always show you his entire plan all at once.\u00a0 Sometimes he\u2019ll only show you the next step.<\/strong>\u00a0 Faith is not insisting that God show you everything before you trust and obey.\u00a0 Sometimes all we can do is to take that next step God tells us to take, and trust that He will show you the rest in time.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 2:8-10 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then he told them, &#8220;Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.&#8221; They did so,<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and said, &#8220;Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 8-10:\u00a0 When you let Jesus have his way in your life, his methods and his plan will not always be what you expect or what you would plan for yourself.\u00a0 But in the end his plans are always better.\u00a0 God is still in the business of saving the best till last.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 2:11-12 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This, the first of his miraculous signs, Jesus performed at Cana in Galilee. He thus revealed his glory, and his disciples put their faith in him.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0After this he went down to Capernaum with his mother and brothers and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 11-12:\u00a0 Jesus took a problem and turned it into an opportunity for his disciples to trust him and experience his power in a new way.\u00a0 Likewise,\u00a0<strong>whenever you encounter a problem, believe that it is an opportunity to learn to trust God in a new way.\u00a0 See your situation as a stage for God to show His power.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Jesus, I invite You into\u00a0<strong>[name a situation that you find challenging or problematic right now]<\/strong>.\u00a0 Instead of me controlling You, I ask You to have Your way in that situation.\u00a0 Help me to know what You want me to do and to take that next step, trusting that You will make all things beautiful in Your time.\u00a0 Thank You that when I trust in You this way, I will go from not having enough to having everything I need.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2021 Justin Lim.
