Trust in God; trust also in me.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In my Father&#8217;s house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-3:\u00a0 These words from Jesus to his disciples can also be taken as his words to us today.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Jesus has prepared a place for you in heaven, in his Father\u2019s house.\u00a0 The question is: do you trust Jesus (v1) to take you to his Father\u2019s house when you die, or are you trusting in something else, trying to build your own place in heaven?\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Praise God that\u00a0<strong>if you have placed your trust in Jesus, on the day you die you don\u2019t leave home; you go home.\u00a0 For the Christian, home is where Jesus and the Father are.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 14:4-6 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You know the way to the place where I am going.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Thomas said to him, &#8220;Lord, we don&#8217;t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus answered, &#8220;I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 4-6:\u00a0 The way to God and to heaven is Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The way to heaven is not a philosophy to believe in or a set of rules to follow. The way is a person to trust.<\/strong>\u00a0 The only way to the Father is by trusting in the person of Jesus Christ.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 14:7-11 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Philip said, &#8220;Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus answered: &#8220;Don&#8217;t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, &#8216;Show us the Father&#8217;?<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Don&#8217;t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 7-11:\u00a0 When Philip asks Jesus to show them the Father (v8), Jesus responds by saying that anyone who has seen Jesus has seen the Father (v9), that the Father is in him and he is in the Father (v10).\u00a0 In other words, Jesus and the Father are not just one in purpose, as Jesus says in John 10:30.\u00a0 Even more, Jesus and the Father are one in that Jesus is in the Father and the Father is in Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>To see Jesus is to see the Father (v9).\u00a0 To know one is to know the other.\u00a0 To not know one is to not know the other.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 14:12 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 12:\u00a0 Can any follower of Jesus possibly do greater things than Jesus?\u00a0 What does Jesus mean when he says that those who have faith in Him \u2013 like us \u2013 will do even greater things than what Jesus has done?\u00a0 One way to think of it is in terms of quantity.\u00a0 Jesus ministered publicly for 3 years, reaching all of Israel and the regions surrounding Israel.\u00a0 You and I have the opportunity, God willing, to minister for more than 3 years and together Christians everywhere have the power to bring more people to Jesus than Jesus himself did during his lifetime. Together as the Church worldwide, we have opportunities to do things by God\u2019s power that Jesus himself may not have done during his lifetime on earth.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>While not a single one of us can do what Jesus has done, by Christ\u2019s power working in us together, we the Church can do greater things.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 14:13-14 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 13-14:\u00a0 What does it mean to ask for anything in Jesus\u2019 name?\u00a0 This is important because here Jesus promises that He will do whatever you ask in His name, so we better know what it means to ask in Jesus\u2019 name.<\/p>\n<p>To ask in Jesus\u2019 name means at least two things:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0<strong>To ask in Jesus\u2019 name means to believe in the authority of Jesus\u2019 name to accomplish what you\u2019re praying for.<\/strong>\u00a0 Have faith in the name of Jesus to accomplish things that would be impossible in your own strength.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0<strong>To ask in Jesus\u2019 name means to ask for what Jesus would ask for.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0How do you know what Jesus would ask for?\u00a0 By growing in your relationship with Him. The better you know Jesus and what\u2019s on his heart, the more you\u2019ll know what to ask for.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You Jesus for being the way, the truth and the life.\u00a0 Thank You for making a way to God and to heaven for me when I had no way on my own.\u00a0 Thank You for preparing a place for me in heaven, such that on the day I die, I don\u2019t leave home, but I go home.\u00a0 Thank You for calling us not just to be saved, but to do greater things on this earth.
