So I looked for him but did not find him.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<sup>3<\/sup>\u00a0<em>\u00a0The watchmen found me as they made their rounds in the city. &#8220;Have you seen the one my heart loves?&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Scarcely had I passed them when I found the one my heart loves. I held him and would not let him go till I had brought him to my mother&#8217;s house, to the room\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0the one who conceived me.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Daughters\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0Jerusalem, I charge you by the gazelles and by the does\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0the field: Do not arouse or awaken love until it so desires.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-5:\u00a0 All night long the girl is thinking about her boyfriend, whether consciously or in the form\u00a0of\u00a0a dream.\u00a0 When she finds him, there is the temptation to be sexually intimate with one another (v4), but once again she reminds herself: \u201cDo not arouse or awaken love until it so desires\u201d (v5).\u00a0 The girl restrains herself and wisely tells herself to wait until after they\u2019re married.<\/p>\n<p>One\u00a0of\u00a0my favourite verses is verse 4 where the girl says, \u201cwhen I found the one my heart loves.\u00a0 I held him and would not let him go\u201d.\u00a0 \u00a0We must be careful not to read too much into\u00a0Song\u00a0of\u00a0Songs, but to me this verse is a beautiful picture\u00a0of\u00a0the day our hearts found Jesus, or perhaps more accurately when Jesus found us.\u00a0 It\u2019s the idea that\u00a0<strong>our hearts will always be searching and wandering until the day we find Jesus, the lover\u00a0<\/strong><strong>of<\/strong><strong>\u00a0our soul.\u00a0 When we find Him, may we never let Him go.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Song<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>of<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>Songs<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>3<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:6-11 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Who is this coming up from the desert like a column\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0smoke, perfumed with myrrh and incense made from all the spices\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0the merchant?\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Look! It is Solomon&#8217;s carriage, escorted by sixty warriors, the noblest\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0Israel,\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0all\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0them wearing the sword, all experienced in battle, each with his sword at his side, prepared for the terrors\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0the night.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0King Solomon made for himself the carriage; he made it\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0wood from Lebanon.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Its posts he made\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0silver, its base\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0gold. Its seat was upholstered with purple, its interior lovingly inlaid by the daughters\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0Jerusalem.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Come out, you daughters\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0Zion, and look at King Solomon wearing the crown, the crown with which his mother crowned him on the day\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0his wedding, the day his heart rejoiced.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 6-11:\u00a0 Thus far I have referred to the lover as \u201cthe guy\u201d, as opposed to King Solomon. That is because there is some debate as to whether \u201cKing Solomon\u201d in\u00a0Song\u00a0of\u00a0Songs\u00a0is the actual historical King Solomon, or if that\u2019s just a fun nickname given to the groom, similar to where one might call someone \u201cPrince Charming\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Whether it is actually King Solomon or a guy nicknamed \u201cKing Solomon\u201d, the guy is wearing the clothing\u00a0of\u00a0a groom dressed for his wedding day (v11).\u00a0 He is riding in an ornate and luxurious carriage (or some scholars say it\u2019s actually a bed) accompanied by 60 soldiers.\u00a0 It is clear what\u2019s going on:\u00a0 this is the guy and the girl on their wedding day.\u00a0 This wedding is described as the day the guy\u2019s \u201cheart rejoiced\u201d (v11).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<p>First, when you seek to honour God in your relationships, there will be an aroma\u00a0of\u00a0God\u2019s strong, gentle, royal presence on your life that will be palpable to others.<\/p>\n<p>Second, those\u00a0of\u00a0you wanting to get married one day, when you and your boyfriend\/girlfriend try to honour God with the way you handle your courtship, when you try to conduct yourself in a manner worthy\u00a0of\u00a0the royal calling and the strong spiritual DNA you have in Jesus, your wedding will be a day\u00a0of\u00a0great rejoicing and celebration, a day when your heart rejoices.\u00a0 There will be a sense\u00a0of\u00a0God\u2019s royal, joyful presence on your wedding day because you sought to give God glory during your courtship.<\/p>\n<p>Third, whether you are single, married, widowed or divorced, if you have placed your faith in Jesus, you can look forward to being part of the most joyful wedding that there will ever be.\u00a0 It&#8217;s\u00a0the royal wedding\u00a0of\u00a0the Lamb Jesus Christ with us His church, as described in Revelation 19:6-8.\u00a0 On that day there will be more\u00a0celebration\u00a0and rejoicing than any other wedding ever.\u00a0 And it will happen on the day that Jesus comes to take us home to be with Him forever.<\/p>\n<p><em>Father, thank You that it is worth trying to honour You with the way we handle our relationships.\u00a0 In the way we handle relationships and treat those around us, may we live our lives worthy\u00a0<\/em><em>of<\/em><em>\u00a0the royal calling we have in Jesus.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2022 Justin Lim.
