Oh, how beautiful! Your eyes behind your veil are doves. Your hair is like a flock\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0goats descending from Mount Gilead.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Your teeth are like a flock\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0sheep just shorn, coming up from the washing. Each has its twin; not one\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0them is alone.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Your lips are like a scarlet ribbon; your mouth is lovely. Your temples behind your veil are like the halves\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0a pomegranate.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<sup>4<\/sup>\u00a0<em>\u00a0Your neck is like the tower\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0David, built with elegance; on it hang a thousand shields, all\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0them shields\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0warriors.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Your two breasts are like two fawns, like twin fawns\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0a gazelle that browse among the lilies.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Until the day breaks and the shadows flee, I will go to the mountain\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0myrrh and to the hill\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0incense.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0All beautiful you are, my darling; there is no flaw in you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-7:\u00a0 The end\u00a0of\u00a0chapter 3 and all\u00a0of\u00a0Song\u00a0of\u00a0Songs\u00a04\u00a0are a huge turning point in the love story between the guy and the girl.\u00a0 The end\u00a0of\u00a0chapter 3 depicts their wedding.\u00a0 Chapter\u00a04\u00a0depicts their wedding night. \u00a0(Notice that 5 times in chapter\u00a04\u00a0the guy refers to the girl as \u201cmy bride\u201d.)\u00a0 While in their honeymoon suite, the guy praises the girl\u2019s beauty, using images and comparisons that would have meant something to the girl in her culture.\u00a0 The guy gets specific when expressing how much he loves and enjoys the different parts\u00a0of\u00a0his bride\u2019s body.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>Be vocal about your spouse\u2019s beauty.\u00a0 Take the time to admire and appreciate the different aspects\u00a0<\/strong><strong>of<\/strong><strong>\u00a0how beautiful your spouse is.<\/strong>\u00a0 Even if there are things about your spouse that you do not like, the fact is that as your spouse they are worth your admiration.\u00a0 Husbands, just as Christ looks at us His church as His blameless, flawless bride (Ephesians 5:25-27), if there is anyone in the world who needs to tell your wife, \u201cAll beautiful you are, my darling; there is no flaw in you\u201d (v7), it is you her husband. \u00a0\u00a0<strong>Like the guy in this chapter, find ways to tell your spouse how beautiful they are in ways that are meaningful to them.\u00a0 You don\u2019t need to be corny, but you need to be sincere, and you need to try.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The more you take the time to admire and appreciate your spouse, chances are the sweeter your relationship and sex life will be.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Song<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>of<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>Songs<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>4<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:8-9 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Come with me from Lebanon, my bride, come with me from Lebanon. Descend from the crest\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0Amana, from the top\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0Senir, the summit\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0Hermon, from the lions&#8217; dens and the mountain haunts\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0the leopards.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0You have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride; you have stolen my heart with one glance\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0your eyes, with one jewel\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0your necklace.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 8-9:\u00a0 \u00a0On the wedding night when this bride is about to lose her virginity, there is understandable anxiety and fear that the bride is going through, as well as possibly thoughts\u00a0of\u00a0missing home.\u00a0 The \u201clions\u2019 dens and mountain haunts\u00a0of\u00a0the leopards\u201d (v8) may refer to the quiet fears and anxieties the bride was experiencing.\u00a0 This was the guy\u2019s way\u00a0of\u00a0reassuring the girl not to be afraid or anxious on their wedding night.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The joy\u00a0<\/strong><strong>of<\/strong><strong>\u00a0sex between a husband and wife is not simply physical, but it\u2019s emotional and psychological as well<\/strong>.\u00a0 Some try to reduce sex to nothing more than a physical transaction, but there is so much more to good sex than that.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>In order for a married couple to enjoy sex together, the husband and wife need to serve each other\u2019s psychological and emotional needs.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In verse 9 when the guy says, \u201cyou have stolen my heart, my sister, my bride; you have stolen my heart\u201d, it reminds me of Proverbs 5 where it says \u201cMay you rejoice in the wife of your youth\u2026may you ever be captivated by her love\u201d.\u00a0 If you are married, I pray the same for you: may you ever be captivated by the person you said yes to.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Song<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>of<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>Songs<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<strong><em>4<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>:10-16 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0How delightful is your love, my sister, my bride! How much more pleasing is your love than wine, and the fragrance\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0your perfume than any spice!\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Your lips drop sweetness as the honeycomb, my bride; milk and honey are under your tongue. The fragrance\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0your garments is like that\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0Lebanon.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0You are a garden locked up, my sister, my bride; you are a spring enclosed, a sealed fountain.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Your plants are an orchard\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0pomegranates with choice fruits, with henna and nard,\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with every kind\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0incense tree, with myrrh and aloes and all the finest spices.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0You are a garden fountain, a well\u00a0<\/em>of<em>\u00a0flowing water streaming down from Lebanon.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Awake, north wind, and come, south wind! Blow on my garden, that its fragrance may spread abroad. Let my lover come into his garden and taste its choice fruits.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 10-16:\u00a0 The newlyweds progress from the guy praising the girl\u2019s beauty (v1-7) to the guy calming her fears and inviting her to respond physically (v8-9) to them kissing (v10-11) to them engaging in foreplay (v12-15) until the girl is ready for intercourse (v16).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0 Notice that the newlyweds take their time to try to enjoy every part\u00a0of\u00a0the process leading to sex.\u00a0 All five\u00a0of\u00a0their senses (taste, sight, touch, smell and sound) are engaged.\u00a0 Both are active in loving one another.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Those who fully enjoy sex take their time to appreciate the little things that lead up to it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Father, thank You for the gift\u00a0<\/em><em>of<\/em><em>\u00a0sex between a husband and a wife.\u00a0 For every married couple reading this sharing, I pray that You would bless their sex life and that You would teach them how to enjoy sex to the fullest.\u00a0 Give them wisdom to serve each other\u2019s physical, emotional and psychological needs.\u00a0 For those who desire to get married, thank You that You know the plans You have for them, plans to prosper them and not to harm them.\u00a0 Help them to trust You to work all things out in Your perfect time and way. \u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2022 Justin Lim.
