{"id":31964,"date":"2024-07-25T22:00:13","date_gmt":"2024-07-26T05:00:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/acts-7_1-16-copy\/"},"modified":"2024-07-09T21:55:13","modified_gmt":"2024-07-10T04:55:13","slug":"acts-7_17-29","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/acts-7_17-29\/","title":{"rendered":"Study God\u2019s Word and Know It Well"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Acts 7:17-29 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+7%3A17-29&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">(CLICK HERE FOR\u00a0BIBLE VERSES)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-31966 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/24-0726.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/24-0726.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/07\/24-0726-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is\u00a0Acts\u00a07:17-29.\u00a0 As usual,\u00a0I encourage you to read the passage yourself first and see what you can glean with the Holy Spirit\u2019s help, then read the GAME sharing below.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Acts 7:17-29 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;As the time drew near for God to fulfill his promise to Abraham, the number of our people in Egypt greatly increased.<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then another king, who knew nothing about Joseph, became ruler of Egypt.<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He dealt treacherously with our people and oppressed our forefathers by forcing them to throw out their newborn babies so that they would die.<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;At that time Moses was born, and he was no ordinary child. For three months he was cared for in his father&#8217;s house.<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When he was placed outside, Pharaoh&#8217;s daughter took him and brought him up as her own son.<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Moses was educated in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful in speech and action.<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;When Moses was forty years old, he decided to visit his fellow Israelites.<br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He saw one of them being mistreated by an Egyptian, so he went to his defense and avenged him by killing the Egyptian.<br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Moses thought that his own people would realize that God was using him to rescue them, but they did not.<br \/>\n<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The next day Moses came upon two Israelites who were fighting. He tried to reconcile them by saying, &#8216;Men, you are brothers; why do you want to hurt each other?&#8217;<br \/>\n<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;But the man who was mistreating the other pushed Moses aside and said, &#8216;Who made you ruler and judge over us?<br \/>\n<sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Do you want to kill me as you killed the Egyptian yesterday?&#8217;<br \/>\n<sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When Moses heard this, he fled to Midian, where he settled as a foreigner and had two sons.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 17-29:\u00a0 Continuing his dramatic recounting of Israel\u2019s history, Stephen talks about the early life of Moses, essentially summarizing Exodus 1-2.<\/p>\n<p>Why is Stephen doing this?\u00a0 Remember that Stephen\u2019s opponents were formally accusing Stephen of changing the customs handed down to them by Moses (Acts 6:14).\u00a0 But here Stephen shows a thorough and traditional understanding of the Scriptures that talk about Moses.\u00a0 Stephen is showing us a great example of what Paul means in 2 Timothy 2:15 by \u201cDo your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like Stephen,\u00a0<strong>if you want to add credibility, insight and confidence to your witness for Jesus Christ (whether in your home, your workplace, your school, among friends or those you lead), get to know the Word of God well.<\/strong>\u00a0 Be a student of God\u2019s Word.\u00a0 Listen to it, read it, study it, meditate on it, memorize it and apply it to your life.\u00a0 That way you can better answer the questions people ask you.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Knowing God\u2019s Word well doesn\u2019t happen overnight or in a short period of time.\u00a0 Rather, knowing God\u2019s Word is something that happens when you invest time and energy reading and meditating on the Bible over a long period of time.<\/strong>\u00a0 Not only will knowing the word of God help your witness for Jesus, even more it will help you make wiser decisions and help you to have godly insight into your own life as well as the lives of others.\u00a0 As followers of Jesus, let\u2019s get God\u2019s Word \u2013 the Bible \u2013 into our hearts every day and study it intently.<\/p>\n<p><em>Father, I pray for me and all my friends reading this GAME sharing, that we would feed on Your Word every day and treasure it more than our daily bread.\u00a0 That way we will be better equipped to help others and to be a better witness for Your Son Jesus.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2022 Justin Lim. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham while he was still in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran.<br \/>\n3\u00a0\u00a0&#8216;Leave your country and your people,&#8217; God said, &#8216;and go to the land I will show you.&#8217;<br \/>\n4\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;So he left the land of the Chaldeans and settled in Haran. After the death of his father, God sent him to this land where you are now living.<\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-16: Why is Stephen giving a speech to the Sanhedrin, Israel\u2019s ruling council of elders, about the history of Israel?
