Today\u2019s passage is\u00a0Acts\u00a07:30-43.\u00a0 As usual,\u00a0I encourage you to read the passage yourself first and see what you can glean with the Holy Spirit\u2019s help, then read the GAME sharing below.\u00a0 Let’s go!<\/p>\n

Acts 7:30-43 (NIV)<\/strong>
\n30\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“After forty years had passed, an angel appeared to Moses in the flames of a burning bush in the desert near Mount Sinai.
\n31\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When he saw this, he was amazed at the sight. As he went over to look more closely, he heard the Lord’s voice:
\n32\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0‘I am the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.’ Moses trembled with fear and did not dare to look.
\n33\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“Then the Lord said to him, ‘Take off your sandals; the place where you are standing is holy ground.
\n34\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I have indeed seen the oppression of my people in Egypt. I have heard their groaning and have come down to set them free. Now come, I will send you back to Egypt.’
\n35\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“This is the same Moses whom they had rejected with the words, ‘Who made you ruler and judge?’ He was sent to be their ruler and deliverer by God himself, through the angel who appeared to him in the bush.
\n36\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He led them out of Egypt and did wonders and miraculous signs in Egypt, at the Red Sea and for forty years in the desert.
\n37\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“This is that Moses who told the Israelites, ‘God will send you a prophet like me from your own people.’
\n38\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He was in the assembly in the desert, with the angel who spoke to him on Mount Sinai, and with our fathers; and he received living words to pass on to us.
\n39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“But our fathers refused to obey him. Instead, they rejected him and in their hearts turned back to Egypt.
\n40\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They told Aaron, ‘Make us gods who will go before us. As for this fellow Moses who led us out of Egypt–we don’t know what has happened to him!’
\n41\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0That was the time they made an idol in the form of a calf. They brought sacrifices to it and held a celebration in honor of what their hands had made.
\n42\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But God turned away and gave them over to the worship of the heavenly bodies. This agrees with what is written in the book of the prophets: “‘Did you bring me sacrifices and offerings forty years in the desert, O house of Israel?
\n43\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You have lifted up the shrine of Molech and the star of your god Rephan, the idols you made to worship. Therefore I will send you into exile’ beyond Babylon.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 30-43:\u00a0 Here Stephen recounts how Moses obeyed the call of God and how God performed incredible signs and wonders through Moses to deliver the Israelites from slavery in Egypt (v30-38).\u00a0 Yet despite all this, the Israelites rejected Moses and chose to worship idols instead of the LORD (v39-43).\u00a0 Stephen is connecting the way the Israelites in Moses\u2019 time rejected Moses, God\u2019s chosen servant, with the way many of Israelites\u2019 opponents were now rejecting Jesus, God\u2019s Son.\u00a0 Stephen is pointing to a pattern of rebellion against God that he notices among his own people. He will later say that they have this tendency to reject the Holy Spirit (see verse 51).<\/p>\n

What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0When we don\u2019t learn from the mistakes of those who went before us, we run the risk of repeating those mistakes.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Father, please help me to acknowledge, in a humble and gentle way, the mistakes and sins that have especially affected the generations who came before me.\u00a0 Help me to be aware of what sins, mistakes and struggles I and the generations after me especially need to be vigilant about avoiding,\u00a0so that instead of repeating history in negative ways, we can make history with You in glorious ways.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n
