{"id":32152,"date":"2024-08-06T22:00:12","date_gmt":"2024-08-07T05:00:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/acts-10_17-33-copy\/"},"modified":"2024-07-23T17:11:56","modified_gmt":"2024-07-24T00:11:56","slug":"acts-10_34-48","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/acts-10_34-48\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesus For Every Nation"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Acts 10:34-48 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+10%3A34-48&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">(CLICK HERE FOR\u00a0BIBLE VERSES)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-32155 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/24-0807-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/24-0807-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/24-0807-1-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is\u00a0Acts\u00a010:34-48.\u00a0 As usual,\u00a0I encourage you to read the passage yourself first and see what you can glean with the Holy Spirit\u2019s help, then read the GAME sharing below.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Acts 10:34-35 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>34\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Peter began to speak: &#8220;I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism<br \/>\n<sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0but accepts people from every nation who fear him and do what is right.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 34-35:\u00a0 Peter recognizes that it was the Holy Spirit who gave him and Cornelius each a vision around the same time and used those visions to bring the two of them together.\u00a0 Even as he is preaching to Cornelius\u2019 household, Peter himself is realizing that truly God\u2019s heart is for people from every nation.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Acts 10:36-43 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You know the message God sent to the people of Israel, telling the good news of peace through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.<br \/>\n<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You know what has happened throughout Judea, beginning in Galilee after the baptism that John preached&#8211;<br \/>\n<sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him.<br \/>\n<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;We are witnesses of everything he did in the country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed him by hanging him on a tree,<br \/>\n<sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0but God raised him from the dead on the third day and caused him to be seen.<br \/>\n<sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He was not seen by all the people, but by witnesses whom God had already chosen&#8211;by us who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.<br \/>\n<sup>42\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one whom God appointed as judge of the living and the dead.<br \/>\n<sup>43\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 36-43:\u00a0 Peter then goes into the specifics of the Gospel message.\u00a0 Peter speaks of Jesus\u2019 incredible, Holy-Spirit anointed life (v37-38), of Jesus\u2019 death on a cross (v39), of Jesus\u2019 resurrection (v40-41), and of the mission Jesus gave Peter and his other disciples to preach.\u00a0 He declares that Jesus is the judge that we must all answer to (v42), the one that all the prophets of the Old Testament testified about (v43), and the one in whom there is forgiveness of sins (v43).<\/p>\n<p>From his sermon we learn that:<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The gospel brings peace through Jesus Christ<\/strong>\u00a0(v36)<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Jesus is Lord of all<\/strong>; in other words, Jesus has authority over everything (v36)<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The power of God is greater than the power of the devil<\/strong>\u00a0(v38)<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Jesus\u2019 resurrection was not merely a spiritual or mystical resurrection but an actual, physical resurrection from the dead, as Peter and the other disciples ate and drank with him (v41).<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Acts 10:44-48 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>44\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message.<br \/>\n<sup>45\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on the Gentiles.<br \/>\n<sup>46\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God. Then Peter said,<br \/>\n<sup>47\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Can anyone keep these people from being baptized with water? They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>48\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for a few days.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 44-48:\u00a0 Here we have what you could call the \u201cGentile Pentecost\u201d.\u00a0 Just as the Holy Spirit fell on the Jewish believers in Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost, so here the Holy Spirit falls upon Cornelius and his entire household as they hear Peter preaching about Jesus.\u00a0 It is a watershed moment in the history of the church as Peter realizes that\u00a0<strong>Jesus and the Holy Spirit are just as much for Gentiles as they are for the Jews<\/strong>.\u00a0 Cornelius and his household are baptized to declare their faith in Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus is for every person from every nation, regardless of their background or culture.<\/p>\n<p><em>Jesus, thank You for the amazing ways that You bring people together, all for a purpose that is greater than themselves.\u00a0 Thank You for Your heart which beats for every person from every nation, ethnicity, race and background.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2022 Justin Lim.
