{"id":3576,"date":"2019-06-17T20:00:47","date_gmt":"2019-06-18T03:00:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=3576"},"modified":"2019-06-11T11:54:50","modified_gmt":"2019-06-11T18:54:50","slug":"titus_2_1-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/titus_2_1-8\/","title":{"rendered":"We Need Self-Control"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Titus 2:1-8 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Titus+2%3A1-8&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3577 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/190618.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/190618.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/190618-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/190618-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Titus 2:1-8.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Titus 2:1 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 1:\u00a0 Once again Paul emphasizes to Titus the need to teach what is doctrinally sound.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of the big themes of the book of Titus:\u00a0<strong>right living requires right believing, and part of defending against lies and falsehood is teaching the truth<\/strong>.\u00a0 It\u2019s no wonder one of Jesus\u2019 favourite sayings during his ministry was \u201cI tell you the truth\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Titus 2:2-6 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect,\u00a0<strong>self-controlled<\/strong>, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live,\u00a0<strong>not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine<\/strong>, but to teach what is good.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children,<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0to be\u00a0<strong>self-controlled<\/strong>\u00a0and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Similarly, encourage the young men to be\u00a0<strong>self-controlled<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 2-6:\u00a0 \u00a0When Paul tells Titus what to teach the older men, older women, younger women and younger men in his church, there is a common theme that emerges no matter what the group he\u2019s talking about:\u00a0 the need to be self-controlled.\u00a0 \u00a0For example, in verse 3, when Paul says that the older women should not be \u201cslanderers or addicted to much wine\u201d, another way of saying this is that we must be self-controlled\u00a0<em>in our words<\/em>\u00a0(\u201cnot be slanderers\u201d) as well as in<em>\u00a0our physical appetites\u00a0<\/em>(\u201cnot addicted to much wine\u201d).\u00a0 In other words,\u00a0<strong>we must have self-control not just over what goes into our mouths but also what comes out of our mouths<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Why is self-control so important and how can you develop it?\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thrivechurch.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=77ec4e1ba0a9c0c7b9605a214&amp;id=6420798b4a&amp;e=b608fe02a2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/thrivechurch.us12.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u%3D77ec4e1ba0a9c0c7b9605a214%26id%3D6420798b4a%26e%3Db608fe02a2&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1560363930841000&amp;usg=AFQjCNESkKwRi8vrSCzxkrX8MGaNgvS9Mg\"><strong><u>Check out this message called Developing Self-Control<\/u><\/strong><\/a>\u00a0<strong>for 4 reasons why self-control is so important and 4 practical ways you can develop more self-control<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Titus 2:7-8 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In everything set them an example by doing what is good.
