Today\u2019s passage is Titus 2:1-8.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

Titus 2:1 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You must teach what is in accord with sound doctrine.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verse 1:\u00a0 Once again Paul emphasizes to Titus the need to teach what is doctrinally sound.\u00a0 It\u2019s one of the big themes of the book of Titus:\u00a0right living requires right believing, and part of defending against lies and falsehood is teaching the truth<\/strong>.\u00a0 It\u2019s no wonder one of Jesus\u2019 favourite sayings during his ministry was \u201cI tell you the truth\u201d.<\/p>\n

Titus 2:2-6 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect,\u00a0self-controlled<\/strong>, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance.
\n3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Likewise, teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live,\u00a0not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine<\/strong>, but to teach what is good.
\n4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children,
\n5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0to be\u00a0self-controlled<\/strong>\u00a0and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God.
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Similarly, encourage the young men to be\u00a0self-controlled<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 2-6:\u00a0 \u00a0When Paul tells Titus what to teach the older men, older women, younger women and younger men in his church, there is a common theme that emerges no matter what the group he\u2019s talking about:\u00a0 the need to be self-controlled.\u00a0 \u00a0For example, in verse 3, when Paul says that the older women should not be \u201cslanderers or addicted to much wine\u201d, another way of saying this is that we must be self-controlled\u00a0in our words<\/em>\u00a0(\u201cnot be slanderers\u201d) as well as in\u00a0our physical appetites\u00a0<\/em>(\u201cnot addicted to much wine\u201d).\u00a0 In other words,\u00a0we must have self-control not just over what goes into our mouths but also what comes out of our mouths<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Titus 2:7-8 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In everything set them an example by doing what is good. In your teaching show integrity, seriousness
\n8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and soundness of speech that cannot be condemned, so that those who oppose you may be ashamed because they have nothing bad to say about us.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 7-8:\u00a0 The best teachers of God\u2019s Word not only tell the truth, but they live it out as well.\u00a0 That\u2019s why Paul in verses 7b-8 talks about showing integrity, seriousness and soundness of speech when\u00a0teaching<\/em>, and also in verse 7a talks about setting an example by\u00a0doing<\/em>\u00a0what is good.\u00a0\u00a0May you be one who not only tells the truth, but lives it too.<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0When you teach others about God\u2019s Word, may your teaching be a double edged sword of true words and a lifestyle that exemplifies those truths.<\/p>\n

Heavenly Father, thank You that You have given me not a spirit of timidity, but of power, love and self-control (2 Timothy 1:7).\u00a0 I pray that today and every day I would live empowered by the Holy Spirit, full of self-control, so that I can live with maximum joy, maximum freedom and be a maximum blessing to others.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
