{"id":3605,"date":"2019-06-26T20:00:16","date_gmt":"2019-06-27T03:00:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=3605"},"modified":"2019-06-11T22:04:35","modified_gmt":"2019-06-12T05:04:35","slug":"1chronicles_5_1-26","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/1chronicles_5_1-26\/","title":{"rendered":"There Is Help and Restoration in Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>1 Chronicles 5:1-26 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Chronicles+5%3A1-26&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3606 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/190627.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/190627.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/190627-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/190627-450x300.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is 1 Chronicles 5:1-26.\u00a0 In addition to the tribe of Judah, Israel also consisted of 11 other tribes.\u00a0 Here the Chronicler begins to look at the descendants of each of those other tribes, beginning with Reuben.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 5:1-2 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel (he was the firstborn, but when he defiled his father&#8217;s marriage bed, his rights as firstborn were given to the sons of Joseph son of Israel; so he could not be listed in the genealogical record in accordance with his birthright,\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-10:\u00a0 Reuben was Israel\u2019s firstborn, and with that status came certain rights, such as a right to a majority of his father\u2019s property and the status of being a leader in the family.\u00a0 However, Reuben lost these rights as the firstborn when he slept with his father\u2019s concubine (Genesis 35:22).\u00a0 As a result, his status as firstborn in the genealogical record, his right to a majority of his father\u2019s property and all the other privileges that came with being the firstborn were taken from him.\u00a0 This affected not just him, but all of his descendants that would come after him.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Similarly, when Adam sinned against God, he lost \u2013 both for himself and for everyone who would come after him \u2013 certain rights that came with being God\u2019s \u201cfirstborn\u201d, such as the right to live in God\u2019s presence forever, the right to be a leader in God\u2019s family, and the right to share in God\u2019s kingdom.\u00a0 This was the punishment we all deserved for our sin.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>However, by dying on the cross Jesus took our punishment as sinners and in exchange gave us His rights as \u201cthe firstborn over all creation\u201d (Colossians\u00a01:15).\u00a0 Jesus restored our standing in God\u2019s presence, our status in His family and our inheritance in God\u2019s kingdom. \u00a0\u00a0What Reuben lost, Jesus has restored for us.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 5:2 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and though Judah was the strongest of his brothers and a ruler came from him, the rights of the firstborn belonged to Joseph)\u2014<br \/>\nOn verse 2:\u00a0 There is prophetic significance to the fact that while Judah was \u201cthe strongest of his brothers\u201d and \u201ca ruler came from him\u201d, still the rights of the firstborn belonged to his brother Joseph.\u00a0 Who is this ruler that would come out of Judah?\u00a0 It\u2019s Jesus Christ.\u00a0 Like Judah, Jesus was the strongest among his brothers (i.e. the best that mankind had ever seen).\u00a0 Like Judah, Jesus was destined to reign.\u00a0 But also like Judah, Jesus did not enjoy the rights of a firstborn son.\u00a0 That is because, in Jesus\u2019 case, while he was entitled to those rights, in love he laid those rights down and so that we could have those rights in his place.<br \/>\nIn this way, verse 2 is pointing to what Jesus would later do for us.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 5:19-20 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They waged war against the Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish and Nodab.<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They were helped in fighting them, and God handed the Hagrites and all their allies over to them, because they cried out to him during the battle. He answered their prayers, because they trusted in him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 11-22:\u00a0 In describing the descendants of the tribe of Gad, the Chronicler recounts a time when the Gadites, Reubenites and the half tribe of Manasseh fought an alliance of Hagrites, Jetur, Naphish and Nodab and how they were victorious \u201cbecause they cried out to God during the battle [and] trusted in Him.\u201d \u00a0(v20)<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0 Here\u00a0<strong>God\u2019s Word is teaching us about the power of prayer<\/strong>.\u00a0 When we cry out to God in our battles and trust in Him, we receive His help.\u00a0 As we like to say at THRIVE, \u201cMuch prayer, much power; little prayer, little power; no prayer, no power.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 5:24-26 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0These were the heads of their families: Epher, Ishi, Eliel, Azriel, Jeremiah, Hodaviah and Jahdiel. They were brave warriors, famous men, and heads of their families.<br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But they were unfaithful to the God of their fathers and prostituted themselves to the gods of the peoples of the land, whom God had destroyed before them.<br \/>\n<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So the God of Israel stirred up the spirit of Pul king of Assyria (that is, Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria), who took the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh into exile.
