This is to be a lasting ordinance for the generations to come.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The lamps on the pure gold lampstand before the\u00a0LORD\u00a0must be tended continually.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-4:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In\u00a0Leviticus\u00a024:2 God tells Moses that the lamps used to light up the tent of meeting are to \u201cbe kept burning continually\u201d (v2).\u00a0 In the same way, you and I, as followers of Jesus, are what Jesus calls &#8220;the light of the world&#8221; (Matthew 5:14-16).\u00a0 Just like the lamps in\u00a0Leviticus\u00a024:2, we were made to keep burning continually\u00a0and shining a light for God in this world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you keep burning continually for God?\u00a0 You need His Holy Spirit.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Just as lamps in Moses&#8217; time needed the \u201cclear oil of pressed olives\u2026so that the lamps may be kept burning continually\u201d (v2), so likewise we need God&#8217;s Holy Spirit to keep on burning.\u00a0 In fact, oil is often a symbol in the Bible for the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<p><strong>We can&#8217;t burn brightly for God on our own strength.\u00a0 If you try to burn brightly on your own, eventually you&#8217;ll just burn out.\u00a0 But when we depend daily on the Holy Spirit, God gives us the ability to keep burning for Him continually, even in our most difficult and most stressful times. \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So ask the Holy Spirit on a daily basis to fill you, to empower you, and to guide you.\u00a0<strong>Just as God commanded the Israelites to bring the oil, remember to bring the Holy Spirit into whatever you do \u2013 welcoming Him, asking for His guidance and wisdom, praising Him.<\/strong>\u00a0 The Holy Spirit is God&#8217;s awesome power source for you.\u00a0 I guess that&#8217;s why as a kid in Sunday School I was taught to sing, &#8220;Give me oil in my lamp to keep me burning&#8221;.\u00a0 It&#8217;s because we need the Holy Spirit every day.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Leviticus 24:5-9 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Take fine flour and bake twelve loaves of bread, using two-tenths of an ephah for each loaf.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Set them in two rows, six in each row, on the table of pure gold before the\u00a0LORD.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Along each row put some pure incense as a memorial portion to represent the bread and to be an offering made to the\u00a0LORD\u00a0by fire.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This bread is to be set out before the\u00a0LORD\u00a0regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath, on behalf of the Israelites, as a lasting covenant.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It belongs to Aaron and his sons, who are to eat it in a holy place, because it is a most holy part of their regular share of the offerings made to the\u00a0LORD\u00a0by fire.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 5-9:\u00a0\u00a0Verses 5-8 describe the 12 loaves of bread that were to be set before the LORD regularly, Sabbath after Sabbath.\u00a0\u00a0Verse 9 tells us that the priests were given this bread to eat &#8220;because it is the most holy part of their regular share of the offerings&#8221;.\u00a0\u00a0This is yet another reminder in\u00a0Leviticus\u00a0that\u00a0<strong>as followers of Jesus we must take good care of the church and of the people who dedicate their working lives to serving God&#8217;s people, that their needs can be continually provided for.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>So church, let&#8217;s be faithful in our tithes and generous in our offerings.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s give faithfully and generously to resource and equip our church to do even greater things for God\u2019s glory in our world.\u00a0 Let\u2019s seek God\u2019s kingdom first knowing that when we do He will add everything we need.\u00a0 Are you up to date in your giving?<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You Heavenly Father for sending the Holy Spirit to be the oil that keep us burning.\u00a0 In every season may we learn to depend on You and burn brightly for You in every circumstance.
