But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 33-34:\u00a0 Jesus never made a point without a picture.\u00a0 That\u2019s what great communicators do.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mark 4:35-41 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, &#8220;Let us go over to the other side.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him.<br \/>\n<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped.<br \/>\n<sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, &#8220;Teacher, don&#8217;t you care if we drown?&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, &#8220;Quiet! Be still!&#8221; Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.<br \/>\n<sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He said to his disciples, &#8220;Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They were terrified and asked each other, &#8220;Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 35-41:\u00a0 Notice it is Jesus who tells his disciples to go over to the other side and yet as they go they encounter a furious squall, a violent storm, which was common for the Lake of Galilee.\u00a0 Wait!\u00a0 If Jesus told them to go, why would there be a storm?\u00a0 Is it possible that these disciples would have been safer had they not obeyed Jesus?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 It\u2019s true that the disciples might not have encountered the same storm had they stayed on the shore and never tried to go to the other side as Jesus had instructed.\u00a0 But they also wouldn\u2019t have seen Jesus\u2019 incredible power in the middle of the storm.\u00a0 They also wouldn\u2019t have one of the most amazing stories of God\u2019s power to tell.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<p>First, Jesus is sovereign over all creation.\u00a0 When Jesus speaks, the wind and the waves must obey.<\/p>\n<p>Second,\u00a0<strong>sometimes God will tell you to do something and things do not go smoothly for reasons beyond your control.\u00a0 That\u2019s not because God is cruel or playing\u00a0games\u00a0with you.\u00a0 It\u2019s because God is writing a greater story with your life.\u00a0 The storm you\u2019re going through is something God will use to do something greater in and through your life.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>So don\u2019t give up, but trust that Jesus will see you through the storm and at the end you will have a testimony to\u00a0share\u00a0about God\u2019s power at work in your life.<\/p>\n<p><em>Jesus, You don\u2019t guarantee a life without storms, but You guarantee Your presence with us in the storms.\u00a0 You\u2019re my only hope in the storm.\u00a0 Let the kingdom of God that was planted in me continue to grow and become everything You made it to be.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>copyright \u00a9 2022 Justin Lim.
