No one was strong enough to subdue him.<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Night and day among the tombs and in the hills he would cry out and cut himself with stones.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 1-5:\u00a0 Notice what happened when Satan got a hold of this man\u2019s life: the man had unusual strength (v4) and yet he spent his days among dead people, living in the tombs (v3), cutting himself with stones (v5) and desperate for help.\u00a0 Similarly, those who play around with the occult or who allow Satan to take hold of their life may from time to time experience unusual strength, but that strength also comes with a haunting emptiness, a loneliness, great fear and a lack of peace.\u00a0 The fact that the word \u201ctombs\u201d keeps getting repeated (v2, v3, v5) suggests this:\u00a0 Satan will never lead you to a place of life but a place of death.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mark 5:6-10 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When he saw Jesus from a distance, he ran and fell on his knees in front of him.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He shouted at the top of his voice, &#8220;What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won&#8217;t torture me!&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For Jesus had said to him, &#8220;Come out of this man, you evil spirit!&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Jesus asked him, &#8220;What is your name?&#8221; &#8220;My name is Legion,&#8221; he replied, &#8220;for we are many.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And he begged Jesus again and again not to send them out of the area.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 6-10:\u00a0 They say that back in Jesus\u2019 time, a \u201clegion\u201d consisted of approximately 5,000 to 6,000 soldiers.\u00a0 The fact that the demons inside the man called themselves \u201cLegion\u201d suggests that there were many demons taking residence in this man.<\/p>\n<p>People tried to subdue this demon-possessed man and their chains could not hold him down (v4).\u00a0 Yet this demon-possessed man falls at Jesus\u2019 feet.\u00a0 What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>No matter how powerful and numerous Satan\u2019s forces are, they are no match for Jesus and they know it.<\/strong>\u00a0 Philippians 2 says that every knee shall bow and every tongue confess that Jesus is Lord.\u00a0 For Jesus is the name above every name and is greater than all evil spirits put together.<\/p>\n<p>Since there is superior authority in Jesus\u2019 name, as a child of God may you use the name of Jesus to conquer whatever attacks from the enemy come your way.<\/p>\n<p><em>Jesus, I worship You.\u00a0 You are the name above every name.\u00a0 At Your name every knee will bow, including the knees of Your enemies.\u00a0 Thank You that no matter what kind of bondage I may find myself in, with You there is freedom from bondage.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>copyright \u00a9 2022 Justin Lim.
