{"id":3865,"date":"2019-07-09T20:00:14","date_gmt":"2019-07-10T03:00:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=3865"},"modified":"2019-07-07T18:11:49","modified_gmt":"2019-07-08T01:11:49","slug":"1chronicles_13_1-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/1chronicles_13_1-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t Let Fear Keep You from Experiencing God"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>1 Chronicles 13:1-14 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Chronicles+13%3A1-14&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3866 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190710.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190710.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190710-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190710-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is 1 Chronicles 13:1-14.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 13:1-4 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0David conferred with each of his officers, the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He then said to the whole assembly of Israel, &#8220;If it seems good to you and if it is the will of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0our God, let us send word far and wide to the rest of our brothers throughout the territories of Israel, and also to the priests and Levites who are with them in their towns and pasturelands, to come and join us.<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Let us bring the ark of our God back to us, for we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The whole assembly agreed to do this, because it seemed right to all the people.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-4:\u00a0 When considering whether or not to bring the ark back to Jerusalem, David confers with his leaders to determine the best course of action.\u00a0 What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>When making an important decision, get good advice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0As Proverbs19:20\u00a0(MSG) says, \u201cTake good counsel and accept correction\u2014 that&#8217;s the way to live wisely and well.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Is there a decision you are in the process of making where you would benefit from consulting others?<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 13:5-6 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So David assembled all the Israelites, from the Shihor River in Egypt to Lebo Hamath, to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0David and all the Israelites with him went to Baalah of Judah (Kiriath Jearim) to bring up from there the ark of God the\u00a0LORD, who is enthroned between the cherubim&#8211;the ark that is called by the Name.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 5-6:\u00a0\u00a0What is this ark that David is trying to bring to Jerusalem?\u00a0\u00a0The ark was a gold covered box that measured 2.5 feet wide, 2.5 feet high, and 4 feet long.\u00a0 Centuries before Moses would meet with God at the ark on behalf of the people (Exodus 25:22).<\/p>\n<p>Why did David want to bring the ark of God to Jerusalem?\u00a0 It\u2019s because the ark of God represented the presence of God.\u00a0 David longed for God\u2019s presence to fill the capital of city of Israel, Jerusalem.\u00a0 Like David,\u00a0<strong>may our greatest longing be for God\u2019s presence and glory to fill our homes, relationships, churches, and cities.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 13:7-10 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They moved the ark of God from Abinadab&#8217;s house on a new cart, with Uzzah and Ahio guiding it.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0David and all the Israelites were celebrating with all their might before God, with songs and with harps, lyres, tambourines, cymbals and trumpets.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When they came to the threshing floor of Kidon, Uzzah reached out his hand to steady the ark, because the oxen stumbled.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0LORD&#8217;s anger burned against Uzzah, and he struck him down because he had put his hand on the ark. So he died there before God.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 7-10:\u00a0\u00a0Why did God strike Uzzah down for trying to stabilize the ark of God with his hand (6-7)?\u00a0 It\u2019s because centuries ago God had commanded in His Word that the ark was not to be touched and that anyone who touched the ark would die (Numbers\u00a04:15).\u00a0 What can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<p>First,<strong>\u00a0God is holy.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>No one can touch God&#8217;s presence and survive if they are stained by sin.\u00a0 The only reason we can enter the presence of God today and live is because Jesus Christ the Son of God has washed our sins with His blood.<\/p>\n<p>Second, David consulted people about his decision, but he failed to consult God.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t we often make that same mistake?\u00a0 We talk to everyone\u00a0<em>except God\u00a0<\/em>about the decision we plan to make, when in fact it is God we should be going to first.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Sometimes our failure to consult God about our decisions can be fatal.<\/strong><br \/>\nIf you want to truly live, you need to know what God\u2019s Word says and obey it.\u00a0\u00a0Sometimes you hear people say, \u201cignorance is bliss\u201d.\u00a0 Yet in Uzzah\u2019s case, his ignorance of God\u2019s commands, or his failure to obey God\u2019s commands, led to his death.\u00a0 God gives us His commands so that we may live and not die.\u00a0 That\u2019s one reason why it\u2019s so important to\u00a0<strong>study God\u2019s Word so that we know what God expects of us and so that we can have life to the full<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 13:11-14 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then David was angry because the\u00a0LORD&#8217;s wrath had broken out against Uzzah, and to this day that place is called Perez Uzzah.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0David was afraid of God that day and asked, &#8220;How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the\u00a0LORD\u00a0blessed his household and everything he had.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 11-14:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Afraid of God,\u00a0David stayed away from the ark and left it at the home of Obed-Edom.\u00a0\u00a0For those three months that the ark stayed in Obed-Edom\u2019s house, his household and everything he had was blessed.\u00a0\u00a0What can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>The presence of God brings the blessing of God.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>The most blessed place you can be is in God\u2019s presence.\u00a0<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"2\"><strong>Don\u2019t let fear keep you from experiencing God\u2019s presence.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Because David was afraid, he stayed far away from God, and in so doing also stayed far away from God\u2019s blessing.\u00a0\u00a0Praise God that we do not need to be terrified of God anymore because Christ has paid for our sins on the cross.\u00a0\u00a0God\u2019s perfect love drives out all fear so that we can enter God\u2019s presence with confidence.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Hebrews\u00a04:16\u00a0<wbr \/>says,\u00a0\u201cLet us then approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"3\"><strong>The Holy Spirit is greater than the ark.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>During the time of the ark, God\u2019s presence seemed to be confined to one place only.\u00a0 But now, after Christ\u2019s death, resurrection and ascension to heaven, He has made His Holy Spirit available to all of us.\u00a0That means that now we have something far greater than the ark: we have His Holy Spirit, given to every believer in Christ without limit so that every believer can experience much of God\u2019s presence wherever they are.\u00a0 Since we have the Holy Spirit, make it a point to<strong>\u00a0welcome the Holy Spirit and draw near to His presence every day<\/strong>.\u00a0 The more you do, the more you and your household will be blessed.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, thank You that Jesus Christ has paid for all of my sins and that Your perfect love drives out all fear.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You that through Jesus Christ I can enter Your holy presence and that in Your presence there is tremendous blessing.\u00a0\u00a0Holy Spirit, thank You that I have You in my life and thank You for allowing me to access the presence of God.\u00a0 I welcome You today.\u00a0 Please fill my life and be glorified in me.\u00a0 In
