The\u00a0LORD\u00a0gave David victory everywhere he went.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-17:\u00a0\u00a0In these verses we see David facing many different enemies (Philistines in verse 1, Moabites in verse 2, Hadadezer of Zobah in verses 3-4, Arameans in verse 5-6, Amalekites in verse 11, Edomites in verses 12-13).\u00a0\u00a0But in each case David overcomes with God\u2019s help.\u00a0\u00a0As verses 6 and 13 say, \u201cThe Lord gave David victory wherever he went\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s a reminder that\u00a0<strong>in this world you may face all kinds of trouble, but with the Lord\u2019s help, you can overcome each of them.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0For in Christ you are more than a conqueror (Romans\u00a08:37).\u00a0\u00a0Blessed are those who internalize David\u2019s words in Psalm\u00a018:29: \u201cWith your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall\u201d, which is another way of saying, \u201cI can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.\u201d (Philippians\u00a04:13)<\/p>\n<p>Notice also that in a number of cases, David didn\u2019t just defeat his enemy, but David took over what belonged to that enemy and used it for his own purposes.\u00a0\u00a0For example, David defeats the Arameans in verse 6 and then sets up his own strongholds in their land, taking control of Aramean territory.\u00a0\u00a0In verse 7, David takes the gold from Hadadezer\u2019s shields and brings them back to Jerusalem for his own country\u2019s use.\u00a0\u00a0In verse 8, David takes great quantities of Hadadezer\u2019s bronze, which Solomon would later use to build tools to worship God.\u00a0\u00a0In verses 9 to 10, when Tou king of Hamath realizes he can\u2019t beat David, he appeases David with gold, silver and bronze, which David then dedicates to the Lord.\u00a0\u00a0What\u2019s going on here? God\u2019s people, led by king David, are taking over enemy territory, redeeming it and using it for God\u2019s glory.\u00a0\u00a0And as they do, their territory is expanding.<\/p>\n<p>In the same way,\u00a0<strong>Jesus the Son of David and our king is leading us into enemy territory \u2013 into areas of our own lives and areas of our society over which He may not have influence right now.\u00a0\u00a0He wants to take over those areas, redeem them and use them for His purposes.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As Jesus says, \u201cI will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.\u201d (Matthew\u00a016:18)\u00a0\u00a0God wants to expand His territory in us and through us.<\/p>\n<p><em>King Jesus, thank You that no matter how much trouble we face in life, with Your help and strength we can overcome all of it.\u00a0\u00a0May You gain the victory over every challenge and enemy I face today.\u00a0\u00a0Come and take over areas of my life, my city and my nation that You don\u2019t yet have full dominion over.\u00a0\u00a0Let Your kingdom come.
