{"id":4035,"date":"2019-07-21T20:00:09","date_gmt":"2019-07-22T03:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=4035"},"modified":"2019-07-19T22:59:47","modified_gmt":"2019-07-20T05:59:47","slug":"1chronicles_19_1-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/1chronicles_19_1-19\/","title":{"rendered":"Better to Have Christ as a Friend than an Enemy"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>1 Chronicles 19:1-19 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Chronicles+19%3A1-19&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4036 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190722.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190722.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190722-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190722-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is 1 Chronicles 19:1-19.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!\u00a0<strong>Better to Have Christ as a Friend than an Enemy + Watch Out for Your Brothers and Sisters<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 19:6-7 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When the Ammonites realized that they had become a stench in David&#8217;s nostrils, Hanun and the Ammonites sent a thousand talents of silver to hire chariots and charioteers from Aram Naharaim, Aram Maacah and Zobah.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They hired thirty-two thousand chariots and charioteers, as well as the king of Maacah with his troops, who came and camped near Medeba, while the Ammonites were mustered from their towns and moved out for battle.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-8, 16-19:\u00a0\u00a0David tries to show kindness and sympathy to Hanun king of the Ammonites after hearing about the death of Hanun\u2019s father Nahash.\u00a0\u00a0But Hanun, influenced by his commanders, is suspicious of David\u2019s act of kindness.\u00a0\u00a0He repays David\u2019s kindness with great disrespect, humiliating the messengers David sent (v4-5).\u00a0\u00a0Knowing he has angered David, Hanun forms an alliance with other kingdoms like Aram, Zobah and Maakah (v6-7).\u00a0\u00a0David sends out his army in full force and scores a decisive victory over Hanun and this newly formed alliance soundly (v8-19).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>When you realize that the way you are living is not pleasing to Jesus, you have a choice: you can ignore Him, redouble your efforts to rebel against Him, or surrender to Him.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0But no matter what choice you make, you cannot run from Him.\u00a0\u00a0One way or another, Jesus is going to put you in submission.\u00a0\u00a0The question is whether you submit to Him as a friend or as an enemy.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>It\u2019s so much better to submit to Christ as a friend than as an enemy.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 19:10-13 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Joab saw that there were battle lines in front of him and behind him; so he selected some of the best troops in Israel and deployed them against the Arameans.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He put the rest of the men under the command of Abishai his brother, and they were deployed against the Ammonites.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Joab said, &#8220;If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you are to rescue me; but if the Ammonites are too strong for you, then I will rescue you.<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God.
