{"id":4117,"date":"2019-07-30T20:00:48","date_gmt":"2019-07-31T03:00:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=4117"},"modified":"2019-07-29T00:01:06","modified_gmt":"2019-07-29T07:01:06","slug":"1chronicles_26_1-32","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/1chronicles_26_1-32\/","title":{"rendered":"Your Service To God Makes a Huge Difference"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>1 Chronicles 26:1-32 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Chronicles+26%3A1-32&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4118 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190731.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190731.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190731-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/190731-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is 1 Chronicles 26:1-32.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 26:1 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The divisions of the gatekeepers: From the Korahites: Meshelemiah son of Kore, one of the sons of Asaph.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-3:\u00a0\u00a0Here the Chronicler begins to list the men who served as gatekeepers at the temple.\u00a0\u00a0Their role was to welcome those who entered the temple and also prevent dangerous or unclean things from entering.\u00a0\u00a0They were part greeter team, part usher, part security, and 100% the first impression people received when people came to worship at the temple.\u00a0\u00a0The fact that the Chronicler lists in detail who served as gatekeepers shows how important the gatekeeper ministry was, and continues to be today.\u00a0\u00a0If you are part of a greeter team, ushering team or security team at the church, thank you!\u00a0\u00a0Your role is a crucial one.\u00a0\u00a0You are the front door of the church and the first impression people receive when they come.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, for people who have never been to church before, you are their first impression of your church and of Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0So never underestimate your role as a greeter, usher, or security person.\u00a0\u00a0When you serve as a greeter, usher or security, know that your attitude, your demeanor and how proactive, observant and loving you are make a huge difference in people\u2019s experience at church.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 26:4-5 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Obed-Edom also had sons: Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, Sacar the fourth, Nethanel the fifth,<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh and Peullethai the eighth. (For God had blessed Obed-Edom.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 4-8:\u00a0\u00a0Remember Obed-Edom, the one who got to keep the ark in his house and God blessed everything he had?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Later Obed-Edom would serve as a musician in the temple as well as a gatekeeper.\u00a0\u00a0Here we see how God blessed Obed-Edom even more with children eight sons of his own and that Obed-Edom\u2019s descendants were \u201ccapable men with the strength to do the work\u201d of the temple (v8).\u00a0\u00a0Praise God.\u00a0\u00a0May we be like Obed-Edom \u2013 people who love God\u2019s presence, who love to serve God with passion, and who reproduce others who will also serve God with strength and passion.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 26:10 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Hosah the Merarite had sons: Shimri the first (although he was not the firstborn, his father had appointed him the first),<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 10:\u00a0\u00a0Usually the firstborn in the family was entitled to special blessing, including a supermajority share of the family inheritance, special status, and decision-making authority.\u00a0\u00a0Apparently a father had the right to give the rights of the first to a son who was not the firstborn.\u00a0\u00a0In this case, Hosah gives Shimri the rights of a firstborn even though he was not the actual firstborn.\u00a0\u00a0This reminds me that Jesus is known as the \u201cfirstborn of all creation\u201d (meaning that he was created per se, but that He has special status in the Father\u2019s eyes and a right to His Father\u2019s inheritance).\u00a0\u00a0Yet instead of clinging onto that firstborn status, in amazing humility and love He gave that firstborn status to us so that we could become children of God and royal heirs of God\u2019s family.\u00a0\u00a0He traded his treasured firstborn status for our orphaned and forsaken status.\u00a0\u00a0Like Shimri, we were given the rights and status of a firstborn even though we were not.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 26:10 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Hosah the Merarite had sons: Shimri the first (although he was not the firstborn, his father had appointed him the first),<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 12-19:\u00a0\u00a0Just like the musicians and the priests, the gatekeepers also casted lots to determine when they would serve.\u00a0\u00a0Once again, it\u2019s a lesson for us that good organization, fairness and impartiality should inform the way we serve at church.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 26:20-22 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Their fellow Levites were in charge of the treasuries of the house of God and the treasuries for the dedicated things.<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The descendants of Ladan, who were Gershonites through Ladan and who were heads of families belonging to Ladan the Gershonite, were Jehieli,<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0the sons of Jehieli, Zetham and his brother Joel. They were in charge of the treasuries of the temple of the\u00a0LORD.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 20-28:\u00a0\u00a0Here the Chronicler lists those Levites who were in charge of guarding the temple treasuries.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s a reminder that the church needs an excellent, well organized finance team to manage, protect and keep records of finances.\u00a0\u00a0If you serve in the finance ministry of your church, what an important role you play.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Chronicles 26:29-32 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0From the Izharites: Kenaniah and his sons were assigned duties away from the temple, as officials and judges over Israel.<br \/>\n<sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0From the Hebronites: Hashabiah and his relatives&#8211;seventeen hundred able men&#8211;were responsible in Israel west of the Jordan for all the work of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0and for the king&#8217;s service.<br \/>\n<sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0As for the Hebronites, Jeriah was their chief according to the genealogical records of their families. In the fortieth year of David&#8217;s reign a search was made in the records, and capable men among the Hebronites were found at Jazer in Gilead.<br \/>\n<sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jeriah had twenty-seven hundred relatives, who were able men and heads of families, and King David put them in charge of the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh for every matter pertaining to God and for the affairs of the king.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 29-32: Here the Chronicler lists other people who were not priests, temple helpers, gatekeepers or treasurers, but who played other very important roles, such as acting as officials and judges (v29), serving in other ministries (v30), and advisors (v32).
