{"id":4413,"date":"2019-08-16T20:00:25","date_gmt":"2019-08-17T03:00:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=4413"},"modified":"2019-08-11T17:13:21","modified_gmt":"2019-08-12T00:13:21","slug":"2chronicles_6_1-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/2chronicles_6_1-11\/","title":{"rendered":"No Other Name"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>2 Chronicles 6:1-11\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+Chronicles+6%3A1-11&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible VersesHi GAMErs,<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-4414 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/190817.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/190817.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/190817-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/190817-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is 2 Chronicles 6:1-11.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2 Chronicles 6:1-3 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Solomon said, &#8220;The\u00a0LORD\u00a0has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud;<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I have built a magnificent temple for you, a place for you to dwell forever.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0While the whole assembly of Israel was standing there, the king turned around and blessed them.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-2:\u00a0\u00a0Remember that just before Solomon speaks in verse 1, to everyone\u2019s surprise a cloud representing God\u2019s glory has miraculously filled the temple (see 5:13-14).\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s a glorious, unexpected and possibly scary sight.\u00a0\u00a0As Solomon wants to continue on with the temple dedication service, his segue way is brilliant.\u00a0\u00a0By saying, \u201cThe Lord has said that he would dwell in a dark cloud\u201d (v1), Solomon reminds the people how in famous times past God also appeared to Moses in a cloud and thick darkness (Exodus\u00a020:21; Psalm 97:2).\u00a0\u00a0In this way, Solomon reassures the people that God is with them.\u00a0\u00a0He helps them to see that the way God is working in their midst right now is consistent with how God has worked in times past.\u00a0\u00a0Solomon also shows the people the significance of this present moment, as they get to dedicate a temple as God\u2019s new dwelling place (v2).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>When you and the people in your care experience something amazing, incredible, surprising or unexpected, turn it into a teachable moment.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0Think back to times past when God has worked in similar ways.\u00a0\u00a0In this way you will receive encouragement, comfort or insight for your current situation.\u00a0\u00a0Just as Solomon took that unexpected situation with the cloud and turned around and blessed the people (v3),\u00a0<strong>take those unexpected and surprising moments and turn them around into opportunities to bless the people who are with you<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<em><br \/>\n<strong>2 Chronicles 6:4-11 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then he said: &#8220;Praise be to the\u00a0LORD, the God of Israel, who with his hands has fulfilled what he promised with his mouth to my father David. For he said,<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8216;Since the day I brought my people out of Egypt, I have not chosen a city in any tribe of Israel to have a temple built for my Name to be there, nor have I chosen anyone to be the leader over my people Israel.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But now I have chosen Jerusalem for my Name to be there, and I have chosen David to rule my people Israel.&#8217;<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;My father David had it in his heart to build a temple for the Name of the\u00a0LORD, the God of Israel.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to my father David, &#8216;Because it was in your heart to build a temple for my Name, you did well to have this in your heart.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Nevertheless, you are not the one to build the temple, but your son, who is your own flesh and blood&#8211;he is the one who will build the temple for my Name.&#8217;<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;The\u00a0LORD\u00a0has kept the promise he made. I have succeeded David my father and now I sit on the throne of Israel, just as the\u00a0LORD\u00a0promised, and I have built the temple for the Name of theLORD, the God of Israel.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0There I have placed the ark, in which is the covenant of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0that he made with the people of Israel.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 4-11:\u00a0\u00a0Here Solomon praises God for choosing Jerusalem as his special city, for choosing David to be the ruler of His people Israel (v6), and for being faithful to His promise to have a son of David sit on David\u2019s throne and build a temple for His name (v10).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pastor Jon Courson makes an interesting note here.\u00a0\u00a0He notes that God chose Jerusalem even though arguably Samaria was a far prettier city.\u00a0\u00a0In Samaria, where King Ahab and Jezebel would later build their palace, you could look west and see the Mediterranean Sea.\u00a0\u00a0You could look east and see the Jordan River.\u00a0\u00a0You could look north and see Mount Hermon.\u00a0You could look south and see Jerusalem.\u00a0\u00a0And yet God did not choose Samaria as the place for his dwelling.\u00a0\u00a0Instead, he chose Jerusalem as the place where the temple would be built.\u00a0(Jon Courson&#8217;s Application Commentary Old Testament Volume 1)\u00a0\u00a0It reminds me of Paul\u2019s words in 1 Corinthians 1:27-29 when he says,<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><sup>27\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong.\u00a0<sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things&#8211;and the things that are not&#8211;to nullify the things that are,\u00a0<sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0so that no one may boast before him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In other words,\u00a0<strong>God chooses ordinary people in ordinary places to do His will.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>So if you feel ordinary, guess what?\u00a0\u00a0You\u2019re in prime position to be used by God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"2\">Notice how the phrase \u201cfor My Name\u201d (or \u201cfor the Name of the Lord\u201d) shows up in every verse from verse 5 to verse 10.\u00a0\u00a0At this time, Solomon\u2019s focus is clear.\u00a0\u00a0He realizes that this temple and all the building, celebrating and magnificence is for God\u2019s name alone.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>May we too be people who live for no other name than the name of Jesus.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0As the song \u201cTake It All\u201d by Marty Sampson and Hillsong Church says, \u201cJesus, we\u2019re living for Your name.
