6:22-31. Let’s go!

2 Chronicles 6:24-25 (NIV)
24 “When your people Israel have been defeated by an enemy because they have sinned against you and when they turn back and confess your name, praying and making supplication before you in this temple,
25 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of your people Israel and bring them back to the land you gave to them and their fathers.

On verses 22-31: Here Solomon continues his prayer to God by describing different challenging situations that he foresees his people going through, including:

When one person wrongs another and needs to take an oath concerning what happened (v22-23)

When God’s people encounter defeat due to sin and they turn back to God (v24-25)

When God’s people encounter famine due to sin and they turn back to God (v26-27)

When disaster strikes for reasons unrelated to the people’s sin and they call on God (v28-31)

In every case, Solomon asks God to hear from heaven and forgive, or to hear from heaven and act.

What can we learn from this? Whenever you face a challenging situation, go to God in prayer. The question is not “Will God hear?” as much as it is “Will we humbly go to God with our problem?” These verses remind me of two great promises that invite us to go to God in prayer and that are worth memorizing if you haven’t already:

Philippians 4:6-7 (NIV)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 5:6-7 (NIV)
6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.
7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

Finally, I am struck by verse 30 where Solomon says about God “since you know his heart (for you alone know the hearts of men)“. Thank You, Lord, that You alone know my heart in all its depths and in all its details. Thank You for being the One who both disciplines me and defends me, and who at all times loves me.

Heavenly Father, thank You that when I turn to You, I turn to the One who is 100% faithful and reliable. Whenever I encounter challenges or difficulties, may my first instinct be to go to You in prayer. Thank You that no one is as merciful as You are and no one is as just as You are. Thank You for the mercy, justice and grace You make available to me when I look to You. In Jesus’ name, AMEN.

Hi GAMErs,

Today’s passage is 2 Chronicles 6:22-31. Let’s go!

2
