But now that Uzziah was powerful, Uzziah thought to himself, \u201cI don\u2019t need to submit to a spiritual leader.\u00a0\u00a0I don\u2019t need to be part of a church.\u00a0\u00a0I don\u2019t care what the Bible says, or what God says, or what my pastors say.\u00a0\u00a0I can do things my way.\u00a0\u00a0I can be my own priest, my own pastor, my own church.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0What\u2019s the lesson here?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Pride causes me to have a distorted view of myself, of God and of others.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2 Chronicles 26:17-19 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Azariah the priest with eighty other courageous priests of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0followed him in.<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They confronted him and said, &#8220;It is not right for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the\u00a0LORD. That is for the priests, the descendants of Aaron, who have been consecrated to burn incense. Leave the sanctuary, for you have been unfaithful; and you will not be honored by theLORD\u00a0God.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Uzziah, who had a censer in his hand ready to burn incense, became angry. While he was raging at the priests in their presence before the incense altar in the\u00a0LORD&#8217;s temple, leprosy broke out on his forehead.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 17-19:\u00a0\u00a0While Uzziah is getting ready to offer unauthorized incense, the priests try to confront Uzziah about his sin and Uzziah becomes incensed (pun intended).\u00a0\u00a0Instead of listening to advice, Uzziah loses his temper.\u00a0\u00a0What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Pride causes me to be unteachable, defensive and to lose my temper easily.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also, while Uzziah is raging at the priests in the Lord\u2019s temple, leprosy breaks out on Uzziah\u2019s forehead.\u00a0\u00a0Uzziah doesn\u2019t notice it at first, but the priests do, and eventually they rush him out of the temple, since no one with leprosy was allowed to enter the temple.\u00a0\u00a0What\u2019s the lesson here?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Pride is a disease where sometimes I\u2019m the last to notice it in myself and quick to notice it in others.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s hard to remain in God\u2019s presence when I\u2019m prideful.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>2 Chronicles 26:21-23 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0King Uzziah had leprosy until the day he died. He lived in a separate house&#8211;leprous, and excluded from the temple of the\u00a0LORD. Jotham his son had charge of the palace and governed the people of the land.<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The other events of Uzziah&#8217;s reign, from beginning to end, are recorded by the prophet Isaiah son of Amoz.<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Uzziah rested with his fathers and was buried near them in a field for burial that belonged to the kings, for people said, &#8220;He had leprosy.&#8221; And Jotham his son succeeded him as king.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 21-23:\u00a0\u00a0Because of his leprosy, King Uzziah could not live with people, could not enter the temple to worship the Lord, and could not fulfill his responsibilities as king.\u00a0\u00a0His reputation became known as the one who had leprosy (v23).
