Then Manasseh knew that the\u00a0LORD\u00a0is God.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-20:\u00a0\u00a0Manasseh takes over from his father Hezekiah as king of Judah. Unlike his God-fearing father, Manasseh throws himself headlong into idol worship and witchcraft (v2).\u00a0\u00a0He rebuilds places for idol worship that his father Hezekiah had destroyed (v3).\u00a0\u00a0Manasseh even sacrifices his own children in the fire (v6) and erects altars inside the temple of the Lord to worship other gods (v4-8).\u00a0\u00a0Under Manasseh\u2019s leadership the people of Judah do more evil than the nations that the Lord had previously driven out of their land (v9). Despite warnings from God (v10), Manasseh and the people of Judah refuse to listen until Assyria invades Judah and takes Manasseh prisoner (v11).\u00a0\u00a0At that time, Manasseh cries out to God in his distress (v12).\u00a0\u00a0God is moved by his plea and allows Manasseh to return to Judah and restores Manasseh to power (v13).\u00a0\u00a0At that point verse 13 says that \u201cThen Manasseh knew that the Lord is God\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Upon his return to Judah, Manasseh cleanses his land of idol worship (v15-17) and begins to live a humble life before God (v19).<\/p>\n<p>Eventually Manasseh dies and is buried in his own palace (v20).\u00a0\u00a0His son Amon\u00a0takes over as king of Judah (v21).\u00a0\u00a0Unfortunately, Amon follows his father in all the wrong ways but fails to humble himself like his father had done in his later years (v22-23).\u00a0\u00a0After only reigning for two years, Amon is killed by his own officials, who conspire against him and assassinate him before they themselves are killed off by the people of Judah (v24-25).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from all this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>No matter how many mistakes you make and how big those mistakes were, God still makes His amazing grace available to you if you would humble yourself to acknowledge Him.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0That\u2019s what happened with Manasseh.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Praise God that His grace is greater than our mistakes.\u00a0\u00a0That amazing grace is available to you and me, if only we would humble ourselves to receive it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, thank You that no matter how mistakes I make and how big those mistakes were, Your grace is greater.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You that through Your Son Jesus Christ, I am forgiven, restored and made new.
