{"id":5498,"date":"2019-10-02T20:00:56","date_gmt":"2019-10-03T03:00:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=5498"},"modified":"2019-10-02T22:37:26","modified_gmt":"2019-10-03T05:37:26","slug":"2chronicles_35_1-27","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/2chronicles_35_1-27\/","title":{"rendered":"The King and The Lamb"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>2 Chronicles 35:1-27 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+Chronicles+35%3A1-27&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5500 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/191003.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/191003.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/191003-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/191003-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is 2 Chronicles 35:1-27.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-19:\u00a0\u00a0King Josiah leads his nation of Judah in celebrating the Feast of the Passover, a time when God\u2019s people remembered the way that He saved them and delivered them from certain death through the sacrifice of a Passover lamb.\u00a0\u00a0King Josiah provides 30,000 lambs and young goats as the people\u2019s Passover offerings, along with 3,000 cattle, all from the king\u2019s own flocks and herds (v7).\u00a0\u00a0The celebration is done as prescribed in the Book of Moses (v12).\u00a0\u00a0Never had there been such a Passover celebration since the time that Samuel led as judge over Israel (v18).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Centuries later another king would make a costly sacrifice on Passover weekend.\u00a0\u00a0But rather than sacrificing lambs, goats and cattle of his own, this king would make a far greater sacrifice: Jesus would become the Passover lamb and sacrifice himself on the cross to take away our sins and to save us from certain death.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On verses 20-27:\u00a0\u00a0King Neco of Egypt is getting ready to fight another nation, but King Josiah musters his army to confront King Neco.\u00a0\u00a0King Neco warns King Josiah that God has told King Neco to hurry and that Josiah should best get out of the way lest he get hurt.\u00a0\u00a0But King Josiah refuses to listen.\u00a0\u00a0He disguises himself in battle and is fatally wounded.\u00a0\u00a0He dies in Jerusalem and all of Judah and Jerusalem mourns for him.\u00a0\u00a0Even the prophet Jeremiah writes songs in honour of Josiah that choirs would still for generations afterward.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Pick your battles wisely.\u00a0\u00a0Don\u2019t get involved unnecessarily in quarrels and fights that don\u2019t involve you. You may end up getting hurt badly and unnecessarily in the process.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"2\">Perhaps Josiah thought, \u201cKing Neco, who are you to tell me what God is saying?\u00a0\u00a0You\u2019re not a follower of the Lord.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Yet verse 22 says that indeed God was speaking to Josiah through King Neco.\u00a0\u00a0As Pastor Jon Courson wisely points out, sometimes God uses unexpected people to speak to us.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Jesus the Son of God preached to his hometown, but the people thought, \u201cThis isn\u2019t God talking.\u00a0\u00a0This is just the carpenter\u2019s son.\u201d\u00a0After Jesus resurrected, he appears and speaks to Mary, but Mary thinks she\u2019s just talking to the gardener.\u00a0\u00a0Another time Jesus is walking and talking on the road to Emmaus with two other men, but they don\u2019t realize it\u2019s Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0When you get someone claiming that they have a word from God, before dismissing it outright, use the four tests we teach in Thrive Discipleship School Level 2 to know whether what you are hearing is truly from God or not:<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ul>\n<li>Is it consistent with Scripture?<\/li>\n<li>Does it promote the character of Christ in my life?<\/li>\n<li>Is it accompanied by peace?<\/li>\n<li>Is it affirmed by my spiritual leaders (people I look up to in the faith)?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"3\">Honour your God-given leaders.\u00a0\u00a0They are not perfect, but God uses them to lead you to Jesus.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em>Lord Jesus, thank You for being the King who became my Passover lamb.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You for sacrificing Yourself to take away my sins and to save me from certain death.
