{"id":5509,"date":"2019-10-04T20:00:39","date_gmt":"2019-10-05T03:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=5509"},"modified":"2019-09-29T15:47:24","modified_gmt":"2019-09-29T22:47:24","slug":"hebrew1_1-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/hebrew1_1-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesus Is&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Hebrews 1:1-14\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+1%3A1-14&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5510 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/191005.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/191005.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/191005-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/191005-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today we begin the book of Hebrews.\u00a0\u00a0It contains one of the Bible\u2019s most beautiful, thoughtful and thorough presentations of who Jesus is and what He has done.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Here is some background on the book of Hebrews that you may find helpful:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The book of Hebrews is known as the only truly anonymous book in the New Testament, as the author does not reveal his identity.\u00a0\u00a0Some have suggested that the apostle Paul wrote this book, although many scholars agree that this is unlikely.\u00a0\u00a0For reasons that we won\u2019t get into now, it seems that a strong argument can be made that Luke, the one who wrote both the Gospel of Luke and Acts, was the one who authored this book.\u00a0\u00a0Whoever the author was, it is clear that the author knew Paul\u2019s disciple Timothy well (see\u00a013:22).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Many scholars agree that Hebrews was written in approximately 69 AD before the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed (otherwise, the author would likely have mentioned this event when talking about how the old sacrificial system of the Jews had been replaced by a new system ushered by the blood of Jesus).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; The intended original readers of this book is also not known with certainty, although a good argument can be made that the writer of Hebrews wrote this book to Jewish believers or even Jewish priests who had converted to Christianity, to teach them the importance of who Jesus is and the difference Jesus makes in how we worship God.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Hebrews 1:1-14.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-3:\u00a0\u00a0Chapters 1 to 3 of the Hebrews speak about the greatness of Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0Here in just the first 3 verses of chapter 1 alone we learn that:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Jesus is the one God uses to speak to us (v1-2).\u00a0\u00a0Above any prophet from the past, above creation, above our conscience and feelings, the clearest, strongest and most important revelation God has given us about Himself is through His Son Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the heir of all things (v2).\u00a0\u00a0All things belong to Him.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the one through whom the Father made the universe (v2).\u00a0\u00a0Jesus is the Creator.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the radiance of God\u2019s glory (v3).\u00a0\u00a0No one radiates God\u2019s glory like Jesus does.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the exact representation of God\u2019s being (v3).\u00a0\u00a0In other words, if you want to see what God is like, just look at Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the one who sustains all things by His powerful word (v3).\u00a0\u00a0He is our Sustainer.<\/li>\n<li>The one who provided the way for us to be purified from our sins (v3).\u00a0\u00a0He is our Saviour.<\/li>\n<li>The one who sits down at the right hand of the Father in heaven (v3).
