looking at and thinking about Jesus, we gain joy, peace, hope, love and perseverance that the world cannot give.

Hebrews 3:3 (NIV) <br 2-6: In chapters 1 and 2 we are shown how Jesus is greater than the angels. Now in the first part of chapter 3 we are shown how Jesus is greater than Moses. When it comes to great leaders in the Bible, you will be hard pressed to find anyone who played a more significant role in building God’s house, or who served God and His people more faithfully, than Moses. Both verses 2 and 5 state that “Moses was faithful in all God’s house”. “God’s house” being referred to here is not a physical building, but the people of God. As verse 6 says, “we are his house”. Yet as great as Moses was at serving God’s house and being a part of God’s house, Jesus is greater still, “just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself”. All the work Moses did was preparing the people for what Jesus would later do and say, and this way Moses was “testifying to what would be said in the future” (v5).

What can we learn from this? Jesus is the builder of His house. As Jesus says in Matthew 16:18, “I will build my church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it.” Like Moses, all of us are stones that Jesus is using to build His house. As Peter (another rock on which Jesus built His church) would later write, “you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.” (1 Peter 2:5).

Lord Jesus, thank You I find all the hope, peace, joy, wisdom, courage, love,
