{"id":5894,"date":"2019-10-24T20:00:32","date_gmt":"2019-10-25T03:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=5894"},"modified":"2019-10-20T16:38:54","modified_gmt":"2019-10-20T23:38:54","slug":"hebrew10_11-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/hebrew10_11-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Once and For All"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Hebrews 10:11-18\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+10%3A11-18+&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-5899 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191025.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191025.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191025-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191025-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Hebrews 10:11-18.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hebrews 10:11-14 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God.<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool,<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0because by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 11-14:\u00a0\u00a0Here we see the theme again of \u201conce and for all\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Jesus laid down His life once, and this was enough to take away the sins of everyone who places their trusts in Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0Compare that to the priests under the old covenant who could never take away the sins of the people or make them holy in God\u2019s sight despite offering the same sacrifices again and again.<\/p>\n<p>dAlso, notice this mystery: Jesus \u201chas made perfect forever those who are being made holy\u201d (v14).\u00a0\u00a0Here the Bible recognizes this dual reality in our lives.\u00a0\u00a0On one level (from heaven\u2019s perspective), the blood of Jesus covers our sin and makes us perfect, acceptable and holy in the sight of God.\u00a0\u00a0On another level (from earth\u2019s perspective), we are still \u201cbeing made holy\u201d; that is, in our practical day to day living, we all have areas where we are still far from perfect and are trying to become more like Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0So which is it?\u00a0\u00a0Are we holy in God\u2019s sight or are we\u00a0<em>being\u00a0<\/em>made holy?\u00a0\u00a0The answer is yes to both!\u00a0\u00a0The first relates to our justification \u2013 how Jesus\u2019 blood makes us completely acceptable in God\u2019s sight\u00a0<em>now<\/em>.\u00a0The second relates to our sanctification \u2013 how till the day we reach heaven every day we are still striving to become more like Jesus in our character, values, attitude and lifestyle.\u00a0\u00a0Praise God.\u00a0\u00a0Through Jesus, we are\u00a0<em>being<\/em>\u00a0made holy and\u00a0we\u2019re\u00a0<em>already<\/em>\u00a0holy in God\u2019s sight!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Hebrews 10:15-18 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The Holy Spirit also testifies to us about this. First he says:<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;This is the covenant I will make with them after that time, says the Lord. I will put my laws in their hearts, and I will write them on their minds.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then he adds: &#8220;Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And where these have been forgiven, there is no longer any sacrifice for sin.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 15-18:\u00a0\u00a0Just as he did in Hebrews 8:8-12, the writer of Hebrews quotes Jeremiah 31:33-34, again attributing these words to the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and not just to Jeremiah\u2019s own ideas (v15).\u00a0\u00a0He quotes Jeremiah 31:33-34 as proof that the Old Testament was pointing to the new covenant that God would make with His people, forgiving their sins and putting His laws on their hearts by giving them the Holy Spirit.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lord Jesus, praise You that because You died on the cross for our sins, we don\u2019t need to offer any more sacrifices or perform any good works to earn Your forgiveness.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Jesus Christ has paid for me once and for all!
