{"id":6000,"date":"2019-10-30T20:00:20","date_gmt":"2019-10-31T03:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=6000"},"modified":"2019-10-27T17:42:23","modified_gmt":"2019-10-28T00:42:23","slug":"hebrew11_8-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/hebrew11_8-19\/","title":{"rendered":"What Faith Looks Like In Real Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Hebrews 11:8-19\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+11%3A8-19&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6001 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191031.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191031.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191031-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/191031-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Hebrews 11:8-19.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>On verses 8-19:\u00a0 To illustrate what faith looks like in real life, the writer of Hebrews focuses in on the life of Abraham and his wife Sarah.\u00a0 Their incredible story is told in Genesis 12-25.\u00a0 Here&#8217;s what I learned verse by verse about what faith looks like from the life of Abraham and Sarah as described by the writer of Hebrews.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Hebrews 11:8 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 8:\u00a0 Faith is going where God tells you to go, even when you don&#8217;t see the whole picture.\u00a0 So if you&#8217;re waiting to see the full picture before you go, guess what?\u00a0 You&#8217;re not living by faith.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><strong>Hebrews 11:9 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise.\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div>On verse 9:\u00a0 Faith is leaving your comfort zone and letting go of what&#8217;s familiar and comfortable.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><strong>Hebrews\u00a011:10\u00a0(NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>On verse 10:\u00a0 Faith is believing that our hope is not on earth, but in heaven, and that our home is not seen but unseen.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><em><strong>Hebrews\u00a011:11\u00a0(NLT2)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It was by faith that even Sarah was able to have a child, though she was barren and was too old. She believed that God would keep his promise.\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>On verse 11:\u00a0 Faith is leaning not on my own strengths and weaknesses, but on God&#8217;s power and faithfulness.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><strong>Hebrews\u00a011:12\u00a0(NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>On verse 12:\u00a0 Faith makes the impossible possible.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><strong>Hebrews\u00a011:13\u00a0(NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div>On verse 13:\u00a0 Sometimes you won&#8217;t see the fruit of your faith until long after you&#8217;ve left this earth.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><strong>Hebrews 11:14-15 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>On verses 14-16:\u00a0 Living by faith means longing for something greater than what you have now and believing it&#8217;s on the way.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><strong>Hebrews\u00a011:16\u00a0(NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Instead, they were longing for a better country&#8211;a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.\u00a0<\/em>On verse 16b:\u00a0 God is proud of you when you live by faith.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><em><strong>Hebrews 11:17-19 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice.
