{"id":6523,"date":"2019-12-04T20:00:33","date_gmt":"2019-12-05T03:00:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=6523"},"modified":"2019-12-04T22:23:15","modified_gmt":"2019-12-05T05:23:15","slug":"nehemiah12_1-47","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/nehemiah12_1-47\/","title":{"rendered":"Worship is a Team Sport"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Nehemiah 12:1-47\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Nehemiah+12%3A1-47&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-6524 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/191205.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/191205.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/191205-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/11\/191205-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Nehemiah 12:1-47.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-23:\u00a0\u00a0These verses list by name the priests and Levites who led the Israelites in worshiping the Lord.\u00a0\u00a0What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God sees, remembers and honours those who lead others to worship Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0You were made to lead others in worship too.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0You don\u2019t have to be a good singer, musician or speaker to lead others in worship.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Worship is so much more than music and speaking.\u00a0\u00a0Worship is living your life to give God glory in whatever you do or wherever you are.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0When you live your life to worship Jesus, you will naturally influence others to worship Jesus too.\u00a0\u00a0Like the people listed in verses 1 to 26, may you be counted among those who led others to worship Jesus.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Nehemiah 12:24-26 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And the leaders of the Levites were Hashabiah, Sherebiah, Jeshua son of Kadmiel, and their associates, who stood opposite them to give praise and thanksgiving, one section responding to the other, as prescribed by David the man of God.<br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Mattaniah, Bakbukiah, Obadiah, Meshullam, Talmon and Akkub were gatekeepers who guarded the storerooms at the gates.<br \/>\n<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They served in the days of Joiakim son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor and of Ezra the priest and scribe.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 24-26:\u00a0\u00a0Back when King David ruled Israel, he created a system in the house of God where worship leaders would stand on one side of the sanctuary and their teammates would stand on the other side.\u00a0\u00a0Each side would respond to the other as they worshiped the Lord.\u00a0\u00a0What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Worship is a team sport<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>You weren\u2019t made to worship God just on your own.\u00a0\u00a0You were made to worship God\u00a0<em>with\u00a0<\/em>other believers, interacting with them, encouraging them, hearing them out, responding to them and praising God with them.\u00a0\u00a0So always protect your time to worship with your church on the weekend and in small group.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0God is greatly glorified when His people worship Him in unity.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On verses 27-39:\u00a0\u00a0Levites (v27), singers (v28-29) and priests (v30) are called to lead the people in a worship service to dedicate the finished wall to the Lord.\u00a0\u00a0Nehemiah arranges for Judah\u2019s leaders as well as two choirs to walk along the top of the wall in an eye-catching procession.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The grand procession ends in the temple where all the people worship the Lord out loud with joy.\u00a0\u00a0The sound of rejoicing in the city is so loud that they could be heard from far away.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this? Bold. Passionate. Thoughtful. Creative. Orderly. United. Joyful. And out loud, so much so that those on the outside take notice.\u00a0That\u2019s the way I believe God made His church to worship Him.\u00a0\u00a0Church, let\u2019s worship Him that way.\u00a0\u00a0Whenever we come together,\u00a0<strong>let\u2019s worship the Lord boldly, passionately, thoughtfully, creatively, orderly, joyfully, out loud and united.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0May our worship be a witness to the world of how great Jesus is.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Nehemiah 12:44-47 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>44\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0At that time men were appointed to be in charge of the storerooms for the contributions, firstfruits and tithes. From the fields around the towns they were to bring into the storerooms the portions required by the Law for the priests and the Levites, for Judah was pleased with the ministering priests and Levites.<br \/>\n<sup>45\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They performed the service of their God and the service of purification, as did also the singers and gatekeepers, according to the commands of David and his son Solomon.<br \/>\n<sup>46\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For long ago, in the days of David and Asaph, there had been directors for the singers and for the songs of praise and thanksgiving to God.<br \/>\n<sup>47\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So in the days of Zerubbabel and of Nehemiah, all Israel contributed the daily portions for the singers and gatekeepers.
