But how can a mortal be righteous before God?<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Though one wished to dispute with him, he could not answer him one time out of a thousand.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0His wisdom is profound, his power is vast. Who has resisted him and come out unscathed?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-12:\u00a0\u00a0In these verses Job is asking a very important question: \u201chow can mere mortals prove their innocence before God?\u201d (v2)\u00a0\u00a0The answer is we can\u2019t.\u00a0\u00a0Job knows that.\u00a0\u00a0God\u2019s power, wisdom and standards are so beyond our own that there is no way we could ever compare or come close.\u00a0\u00a0But the amazing message of the Bible is that when there was no way we could possibly prove ourselves innocent in God\u2019s sight, in love God sent Jesus Christ His Son \u2013 fully God and fully man \u2013 to die on the cross for our sins.\u00a0\u00a0In so doing, at the cross God\u2019s need for justice was satisfied while His mercy and forgiveness could be extended to us. It\u2019s only because of God\u2019s mercy expressed through Jesus Christ that we can be righteous and innocent before God.<\/p>\n<p>Compare this to mainstream Western culture today, where it is preached that everyone can and will go to heaven, unless you\u2019re Hitler.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s a fluffy, feelings-oriented, self-centered, self-contradictory, works-based theology where the bar is set so low and is so unclear.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s what I call Hollywood theology.\u00a0\u00a0Such theology overestimates how good we are and underestimates just how righteous and holy God is.\u00a0\u00a0Hollywood theology spits in the face of Jesus on the cross, making the sacrifice of his life and body seem unnecessary, for \u201cif I can get to heaven on my own, why do I need Jesus?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Sooner or later each of us will need to answer this question for ourselves: can I prove myself innocent before God on my own merit?\u00a0\u00a0If your answer is yes, then you have fallen into Satan\u2019s trap, and it will kill you.\u00a0\u00a0If your answer is no, then you\u2019re on your way to discovering the Saviour that God sent for you.\u00a0\u00a0His name is Jesus.<\/p>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, may I not fall for the lie that I can somehow prove myself innocent before You on my own merit.\u00a0\u00a0Like Job I recognize that I can never compare to You.\u00a0Today I admit that I need a Saviour.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You for sending the perfect Saviour for me: Jesus Christ.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You that when I couldn\u2019t reach You on my own, Jesus became the all sufficient bridge between You and me.\u00a0\u00a0Today I receive Him and what He has done for me on the cross.\u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Job 9:2-4 (NIV)\u00a0<br \/>\n2\u00a0\u00a0&#8220;Indeed, I know that this is true.
