{"id":7285,"date":"2020-01-24T20:00:37","date_gmt":"2020-01-25T03:00:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=7285"},"modified":"2020-01-19T18:21:16","modified_gmt":"2020-01-20T01:21:16","slug":"job14_1-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/job14_1-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Fact Checking Job"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Job 14:1-12 \u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Job+14%3A1-12&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7286 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/200125.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/200125.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/200125-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/200125-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Job 14:1-12.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Job 14:1-2 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Man born of woman is of few days and full of trouble.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He springs up like a flower and withers away; like a fleeting shadow, he does not endure.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-2:\u00a0\u00a0In Job\u2019s pain, anger and frustration, not everything that Job says should be taken as gospel.\u00a0\u00a0Just as we had to do with Job\u2019s friends, we need to fact check Job, separating the wheat from the chaff in his words.\u00a0\u00a0Here in verses 1-2 Job speaks of how finite and short man\u2019s life on earth is.\u00a0\u00a0This is true.\u00a0\u00a0It resonates with other verses in Scripture such as Psalm 103:15-16 where it says, \u201cAs for man, his days are like grass, he flourishes like a flower of the field; the wind blows over it and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Part of living humbly before God is recognizing that life is short and that every day is a gift.\u00a0\u00a0So make the most of today.<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><br \/>\n<strong>Job 14:3 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Do you fix your eye on such a one? Will you bring him before you for judgment?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 3:\u00a0\u00a0Here Job seems to question whether God would bother to judge creatures as small and finite as human beings and if so, why He would bother doing so.\u00a0\u00a0Yet Scripture is clear that\u00a0<strong>God indeed watches everything that humans do and will call us to account.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0As\u00a02 Corinthians\u00a05:10\u00a0(NIV) says,\u00a0\u201cFor we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Job 14:4 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 4:\u00a0\u00a0To paraphrase Job, \u201cHow can sinners possibly live a life that is pure and pleasing to God?\u00a0\u00a0They can\u2019t.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Job is right.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Compared to God, none of us is pure, not even one<\/strong>, says God\u2019s Word (Romans 3:10-12), and\u00a0<strong>none of us deserves to be with God<\/strong>\u00a0(Romans 3:23-24). Praise God that\u00a0<strong>whereas we have no way in and of ourselves to become pure and holy in God\u2019s sight, God sent His Son Jesus to die on the cross and to exchange our impurity for His purity<\/strong>\u00a0so that we could be righteous and acceptable in God\u2019s eyes.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Job 14:5 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Man&#8217;s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verse 5:\u00a0\u00a0Job recognizes that<strong>\u00a0God is sovereign over every person\u2019s life.\u00a0\u00a0It is God who has the final say on how long a person will live.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0As Psalm 139:16 says, \u201cAll the days are ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.\u201d<br \/>\n<em><br \/>\n<strong>Job 14:6 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So look away from him and let him alone, till he has put in his time like a hired man.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verse 6:\u00a0\u00a0Job thinks, \u201cSince man\u2019s days are so few on the earth, I wish God would just look away from us and let us enjoy our days.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Job misunderstands that\u00a0<strong>it is not the presence of God, but the absence of God, that makes us miserable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Job 14:7-12 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;At least there is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Its roots may grow old in the ground and its stump die in the soil,<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0yet at the scent of water it will bud and put forth shoots like a plant.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But man dies and is laid low; he breathes his last and is no more.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0As water disappears from the sea or a riverbed becomes parched and dry,<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0so man lies down and does not rise; till the heavens are no more, men will not awake or be roused from their sleep.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 7-12:\u00a0\u00a0Here Job seems to think that when his life on earth ends, that is the end of his existence.\u00a0\u00a0This is false.\u00a0\u00a0The Bible teaches that when we die all of us will go on to exist for eternity, whether in heaven with God or in hell apart from God (see, for example, Luke\u00a016:19\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0-31; Matthew\u00a010:28; and Luke\u00a023:43).\u00a0\u00a0So don\u2019t be deceived by those who say, \u201cLet us eat and drink and party today for\u00a0tomorrow\u00a0we die\u201d (Isaiah\u00a022:13; 1 Corinthians\u00a015:32), for your existence does not end when your life on earth ends.\u00a0\u00a0When we die on earth, one way or the other, eternity is waiting.<\/p>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, as short and fragile as life on earth is, You made me for eternity.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You that by faith in Jesus Christ and what He did on the cross for me, my eternity in heaven is secure.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You that through Jesus Christ I have assurance that when my life on earth is done, I get to begin my new eternal life in heaven.\u00a0\u00a0I pray that every person around me would know this same assurance.
