Today\u2019s passage is Job 20:1-29.<\/p>\n

Job 20:5-8 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0\u2026the mirth of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts but a moment.
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Though his pride reaches to the heavens and his head touches the clouds,
\n7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0he will perish forever, like his own dung; those who have seen him will say, ‘Where is he?’
\n8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Like a dream he flies away, no more to be found, banished like a vision of the night.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 1-29:\u00a0\u00a0Here Zophar echoes the same message that Eliphaz and Bildad have spoken in Job 15 and Job 18 respectively: that terror, calamity and disaster are the fate of the wicked.\u00a0\u00a0Zophar, in particular, emphasizes how the wicked die young \u2013 how they prosper briefly only to be cut down in the prime of their youth and at the height of their power.\u00a0\u00a0For example, in verse 5 Zophar says, \u201cthe mirth of the wicked is brief, the joy of the godless lasts only a moment\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0About the wicked man Zophar says \u201cthe youthful vigor that fills his bones will lie with him in the dust\u201d (v11).<\/p>\n

In other words, whereas Billy Joel once sung, \u201cOnly the good die young\u201d, Zophar seems to think that only the wicked die young.\u00a0\u00a0Zophar reasons that since Job has been cut down in his prime, Job must be wicked.<\/p>\n

Yet Zophar\u2019s reasoning falls apart when you consider that some of the greatest God-fearing men and women who ever lived also died young:<\/p>\n
