'><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Job 33:19-33 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Job+33%3A19-33&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-7891 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/200225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/200225.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/200225-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/02\/200225-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Job 33:19-33.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Job 33:19-26 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Or a man may be chastened on a bed of pain with constant distress in his bones,<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0so that his very being finds food repulsive and his soul loathes the choicest meal.<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0His flesh wastes away to nothing, and his bones, once hidden, now stick out.<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0His soul draws near to the pit, and his life to the messengers of death.<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Yet if there is an angel on his side as a mediator, one out of a thousand, to tell a man what is right for him,<br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0to be gracious to him and say, &#8216;Spare him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for him&#8217;&#8211;<br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0then his flesh is renewed like a child&#8217;s; it is restored as in the days of his youth.<br \/>\n<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He prays to God and finds favor with him, he sees God&#8217;s face and shouts for joy; he is restored by God to his righteous state.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 19-26:\u00a0\u00a0Just before these verses Elihu describes one way that God can speak to us: through supernatural means like a vision or a dream (v15-16).\u00a0\u00a0Earlier in chapter 32 we learned that another way that God speaks to us: through godly people.\u00a0\u00a0But visions, dreams and godly people are not the only channels by which God tries to get our attention.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As Elihu says, \u201cFor God does speak \u2013 now one way, now another \u2013 though man may not perceive it.\u201d (v14).\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Here<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>in these verses Elihu describes<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>another very important way that God speaks: through our pain and difficult circumstances.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To illustrate this truth, Elihu paints the picture of a man who is sick, in great pain and nearing death (verses 19-22), just as Job is.\u00a0\u00a0But then Elihu says these crucial words:<\/p>\n<p><em><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Yet if there is an angel on his side as a mediator, one out of a thousand, to tell a man what is right for him,\u00a0<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0to be gracious to him and say, &#8216;Spare him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for him&#8217;&#8211;\u00a0<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0then his flesh is renewed like a child&#8217;s; it is restored as in the days of his youth.\u00a0<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He prays to God and finds favor with him, he sees God&#8217;s face and shouts for joy; he is restored by God to his righteous state.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I believe\u00a0<strong>this angel, this mediator, is one of the clearest and most beautiful pictures of Jesus<\/strong>\u00a0we will find in the book of Job.\u00a0\u00a0Just like the angel that Elihu describes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Jesus is on your side as a mediator (v23; 1 Timothy 2:5).<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is unlike any other, one out of a thousand (v23), who stands by your side even when everyone else falls away.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is there to counsel you, \u201cto tell a man what is right for him\u201d (v23).<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is here to be gracious to you (v24).<\/li>\n<li>It is Jesus who says about you, \u201cSpare him from going down to the pit; I have found a ransom for him\u201d (v24).\u00a0\u00a0For to spare us from going to the pit of hell, Jesus\u00a0<em>became<\/em>\u00a0our ransom.<\/li>\n<li>It is through Jesus\u2019 priestly prayers and intercession, and through Jesus\u2019 perfect sacrifice on the cross, that we can see God\u2019s face and shout for joy, for we have been restored to our righteous state by God Himself (v26).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Praise God!\u00a0\u00a0We do have such an \u201cangel\u201d in our lives like the one Elihu speaks of. His name is Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s not an \u201cif\u201d, but a fact.\u00a0\u00a0Aren\u2019t you glad you have Jesus as the \u201cangel at your side\u201d?\u00a0\u00a0(Of course Jesus is far greater than any angel.\u00a0\u00a0He is the Son of God.\u00a0\u00a0But here the role of the angel that Elihu describes is clearly fulfilled by our Saviour Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0In fact, many commentators believe that when the Old Testament speaks about \u201cthe angel of the Lord\u201d, it is a reference to Jesus.)<\/p>\n<p>Notice this as well:\u00a0\u00a0Elihu says that\u00a0<em>if\u00a0<\/em>there is such an angel (v23) who can stand by his side, counsel him, and with his words defend him,\u00a0<em>then<\/em>\u00a0that man\u2019s body and life are renewed.\u00a0\u00a0What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0Somehow\u00a0<strong>it is the presence, the grace and the words of our \u201cangel\u201d Jesus, that renews us and restores us<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<strong>One of the greatest reasons why God allows us to go through great pain is so that He can show us His power working in our weakness.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Job 33:27-33 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then\u00a0<strong>he comes to men and says<\/strong>, &#8216;I sinned, and perverted what was right, but I did not get what I deserved.<br \/>\n<sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He redeemed my soul from going down to the pit, and I will live to enjoy the light.&#8217;<br \/>\n<strong><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;God does all these things to a man&#8211; twice, even three times&#8211;<br \/>\n<sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0to turn back his soul from the pit, that the light of life may shine on him.\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Pay attention, Job, and listen to me; be silent, and I will speak.<br \/>\n<sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If you have anything to say, answer me; speak up, for I want you to be cleared.<br \/>\n<sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But if not, then listen to me; be silent, and I will teach you wisdom.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 27-33:\u00a0\u00a0In Elihu\u2019s illustration, this man who was in great pain is restored by God\u2019s power and now he has a story to tell others (\u201c<em>he comes to men and says<\/em>\u201d &#8211; v27).\u00a0\u00a0Here we learn another reason God allows us to go through pain.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s not just so that we can experience God\u2019s power restoring us (v25-26).\u00a0\u00a0Even more,\u00a0<strong>God allows pain in your life so that you will have a testimony to tell others, a story about in our failing God\u2019s love rescued us and restored us.\u00a0\u00a0He does it so that others can know and experience this powerful, restoring God as well.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0In other words,\u00a0<strong>God allows your pain because He has other people\u2019s progress in mind.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Finally, notice that in verse 29 Elihu says\u00a0<strong>&#8220;God does all these things to a man&#8211; twice, even three times\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>In other words,\u00a0<strong>God will use pain and difficult circumstance not just once in your life, but repeatedly<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 \u201ctwice, even three times\u201d \u2013 so that ultimately you would be rescued from the pit of relying on yourself all the time and would repeatedly reflect God\u2019s light (v30).<\/p>\n<p><em>Jesus, thank You for being the \u201cangel\u201d by my side, my mediator, the one who became my ransom so that I could be spared, the one who touched me with God\u2019s power so that I am restored.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You that every difficult circumstance You have allowed in my life is for a greater purpose: that I would experience Your power and that I would have a story to tell others about You.
