Today\u2019s passage is Amos 2:1-16.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

Amos 2:1-8 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This is what the\u00a0LORD\u00a0says: “For three sins of Moab, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. Because he burned, as if to lime, the bones of Edom’s king,
\n2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I will send fire upon Moab that will consume the fortresses of Kerioth. Moab will go down in great tumult amid war cries and the blast of the trumpet.
\n3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I will destroy her ruler and kill all her officials with him,” says the\u00a0LORD.
\n4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This is what the\u00a0LORD\u00a0says: “For three sins of Judah, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. Because they have rejected the law of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0and have not kept his decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods, the gods their ancestors followed,
\n5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I will send fire upon Judah that will consume the fortresses of Jerusalem.”
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This is what the\u00a0LORD\u00a0says: “For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. They sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals.
\n7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They trample on the heads of the poor as upon the dust of the ground and deny justice to the oppressed. Father and son use the same girl and so profane my holy name.
\n8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge. In the house of their god they drink wine taken as fines.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 1-8:\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s treating our neighbors dishonorably like Moab did (v1-3), rejecting the Lord to follow other gods as Judah did (v4-5), abusing the poor (v6-7), committing sexual immorality (v7-8), and ignoring God\u2019s holiness as Israel did (v8),\u00a0God sees all the ways that we sin against Him.\u00a0 Nothing is hidden from His view.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Yet what amazes me is that as holy and just as God is, God is equally loving and merciful<\/strong>, so much so that the wrath God feels toward our sin He placed on His own Son instead so that ultimately we could be spared the punishment we deserve for our sin.\u00a0 God did not turn back His wrath from our sin.\u00a0 Instead, He directed His wrath against our sin toward His own Son instead, so that we could go free.\u00a0\u00a0It is at the cross where Jesus died that we see all at once the incredible holiness, justice, love and mercy of God.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Amos 2:9-13 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“I destroyed the Amorite before them, though he was tall as the cedars and strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below.
\n10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“I brought you up out of Egypt, and I led you forty years in the desert to give you the land of the Amorites.
\n11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I also raised up prophets from among your sons and Nazirites from among your young men. Is this not true, people of Israel?” declares the\u00a0LORD.
\n12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.
\n13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“Now then, I will crush you as a cart crushes when loaded with grain.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 9-13:\u00a0 God was gracious to Israel, but the Israelites took that grace for granted.\u00a0 Rather than listening to the servants God sent to them, Israel silenced and humiliated them (v11-12).
\nWhat can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0God watches how we respond to His grace and, in particular, how we respond to the spiritual leaders God sends into our lives.<\/strong>\u00a0 It grieves God\u2019s heart when we take His grace for granted or turn a deaf ear to what His servants are saying to us.<\/p>\n

Amos 2:14-16 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The swift will not escape, the strong will not muster their strength, and the warrior will not save his life.
\n15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The archer will not stand his ground, the fleet-footed soldier will not get away, and the horseman will not save his life.
\n16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Even the bravest warriors will flee naked on that day,” declares the\u00a0LORD.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 14-16:\u00a0 No matter how swift, strong or experienced we think we are, we are no match for God.\u00a0 So\u00a0rather than trusting in our own strength, smarts or experience, trust in the Lord and put your hope in Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Heavenly Father, thank You for all the love, mercy and grace You pour out on us despite all the ways we have sinned against You.\u00a0 May we never take You and the people You put in our lives for granted.\u00a0 May I not trust in my own strength, smarts or experience today, but in You alone.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n
