{"id":8524,"date":"2020-04-02T20:00:19","date_gmt":"2020-04-03T03:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=8524"},"modified":"2020-03-29T17:51:50","modified_gmt":"2020-03-30T00:51:50","slug":"amos5_1-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/amos5_1-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Seek God and Find Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Amos 5:1-17\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Amos+5%3A1-17&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-8525 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/200403.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/200403.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/200403-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/03\/200403-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Amos 5:1-17.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Amos 5:1-2 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Hear this word, O house of Israel, this lament I take up concerning you:<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Fallen is Virgin Israel, never to rise again, deserted in her own land, with no one to lift her up.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-3, 16-17:\u00a0 Having been given a preview of Israel\u2019s eventual demise because of her continual idolatry (v3, 16-17), Amos laments for Israel.\u00a0 As Amos says in verse 1, \u201cHear this word, O house of Israel, this\u00a0<em>lament<\/em>\u00a0I take up concerning you\u201d.\u00a0 I believe Amos\u2019 lamenting heart here is in line with God\u2019s.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God is not one who delights in our destruction, even when we get what we deserve for our sin.\u00a0 A loving Father who cares deeply for His children, God grieves and weeps for His children when they make wrong choices and suffer as a result.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Amos 5:4 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This is what the\u00a0LORD\u00a0says to the house of Israel: &#8220;Seek me and live;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 4-6:\u00a0 To a nation of Israelites who had run away from Him, the Lord tells them repeatedly to seek Him and in so doing they will find life: \u201cSeek me and live\u201d (v4), \u201cSeek the Lord and live\u201d (v6), \u201cSeek good, not evil, that you may live\u201d (v14).\u00a0 \u00a0In contrast, the Lord tells the Israelites not to seek the towns of Gilgal or Bethel, which had become centres of idol worship, for they would not find life there (v5).<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0 If you really want life, seek God.\u00a0 Life is where God is, and God is good.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Seek God and you will find life.\u00a0 Our problem is that we love what is evil as much as we love what is good.<\/strong>\u00a0 As Romans 3:10-12 says,\u00a0&#8220;\u2026There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who seeks God.\u00a0 All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>It is for this reason that we need a Saviour.\u00a0 Praise God for sending Jesus Christ His Son to die on the cross for our sins.\u00a0 God did so because He loves us and wants us to find life with Him.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Amos 5:11-12 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You trample on the poor and force him to give you grain. Therefore, though you have built stone mansions, you will not live in them; though you have planted lush vineyards, you will not drink their wine.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins.
