Colossians 3:18-25 Click here for Bible Verses
Hi GAMErs!
Today’s passage is Colossians 3:18-25.
Colossians 3:18-21 (NIV)
18 Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.
20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged.
On verses 18-21: I love the simplicity of this passage. Verses 18 to 21 show us that we all have a God-given role to play in making the home we live in a happy, healthy, God-honouring one.
Colossians 3:22-25 (NIV)
22 Slaves, obey your earthly masters in everything; and do it, not only when their eye is on you and to win their favor, but with sincerity of heart and reverence for the Lord.
23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.
25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.
On verses 22-25: Verses 22-25 are verses I’ve tried to apply to my own life when studying and working, and I have benefited as a result. These verses show us that God cares about how we go about our work, whether it’s work we’re doing for pay, work for our family, our studies, or our volunteer work. Jesus wants to be at the centre of our work.
More than just trying to get good grades so you can get into the schools you want, more than just seeing your job as a way to make money, more than seeing the work you do as an obligation, work hard at your studies and at your job because it’s another way to give Jesus worship. More than serving clients, customers, or even your family, “it is the Lord Christ you are serving” (v24).
When you give your best in your work and your studies as a way to worship Jesus, especially when others are not watching (v22), you give God glory and He Himself will reward you (v24). And in case you think twice about giving your best and doing what is right because you see injustice in your workplace or school, in case you question why other people seem to be succeeding by taking shortcuts, breaking the rules or not working hard, verse 25 is helpful: God is a just God. He will ensure that every wrong is repaid and He will not show favoritism in this regard. Thus we have no reason not to work hard and give our best to God when we work and study, for God sees it all, even when others don’t and He will reward accordingly.
Lord Jesus, thank You for showing me today that in my home, my workplace, and my studies, You deserve first place and centre space. In the way I treat my family and the way I approach my studies or work, may I give my best and may You be glorified. May the way I work, study and love my family be pleasing in Your sight and give You glory. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
