Ecclesiastes  11:1-6   (CLICK HERE FOR BIBLE VERSES)

Hi GAMErs!

Today’s passage is Ecclesiastes 11:1-6.  Let’s go!

Ecclesiastes 11:1 (NIV)
Cast your bread upon the waters, for after many days you will find it again.

On verse 1:  To paraphrase, be generous with what you have.  Don’t hoard what you have, but invest it.  For whatever you give to God, you will somehow get back again one day.

Ecclesiastes 11:2 (NIV)
Give portions to seven, yes to eight, for you do not know what disaster may come upon the land.

On verse 2:  To paraphrase, diversify your investment.  As a leader it’s important to know what you’re good at and stay in your lane.  At the same time, however, don’t be afraid to diversify, to try new things, for you never know what might succeed.

Ecclesiastes 11:3-4 (NIV)
If clouds are full of water, they pour rain upon the earth. Whether a tree falls to the south or to the north, in the place where it falls, there will it lie.
Whoever watches the wind will not plant; whoever looks at the clouds will not reap.

On verses 3-4:  You can’t control the wind or the rain.  You can’t control what direction a tree falls.  If you just worry about what’s not in your control (i.e. watching the wind or looking at the clouds), you’re not going to gain anything.  So instead of worrying about what’s not in your control, do something with what is in your control.

Ecclesiastes 11:5-6 (NIV)
As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things.
Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let not your hands be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well.

On verses 5-6:  There is much that we don’t know and much that we can’t control (v5).   But with what is in our control, let’s do our best, work hard and believe that with God’s help we will bear fruit.

Father, there is much I can’t control, so I leave that all to You.  And with what is in my control, I pray for wisdom to know how to do the best I can with it.  Thank You that You are with me and You are greater than the wind and the clouds.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
