With Jesus there is real life

Today’s passage is John 6:52-59.  I encourage you to read the passage yourself first and see what you can glean with the Holy Spirit’s help, then read the GAME sharing below.  Let’s go!

John 6:52-59 (NIV)
⁵²  Then the Jews began to argue sharply among themselves, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
⁵³  Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you.
⁵⁴  Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
⁵⁵  For my flesh is real food and my blood is real drink.
⁵⁶  Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.
⁵⁷  Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.
⁵⁸  This is the bread that came down from heaven. Your forefathers ate manna and died, but he who feeds on this bread will live forever.”
⁵⁹  He said this while teaching in the synagogue in Capernaum.

On verse 52-59:  When taken out of context these words from Jesus may sound like Jesus is promoting cannibalism or a vampire culture.  But read these words in context and it is clear that when Jesus talks about eating his flesh and drinking his blood, Jesus is not talking about actually physically his flesh and drinking his blood; rather Jesus is talking about believing in him.  As Jesus says in verse 47, “I tell you the truth, he who believes has everlasting life.”  Whenever you come across a verse or a passage in the Bible that you find hard to understand, always consider the context (i.e. what is written immediately before it and after it as well as the surrounding background behind it) so that you can better understand its intended meaning.

Also, notice that over and over Jesus connects eating his flesh (i.e. believing in him) with life:

Notice that Jesus keeps connecting himself with real life.  When you find Jesus, you find real life that nothing else can give you.

Lord Jesus, thank You that with You there is life.  Thank You that when I’m with You, I find life that I can’t find anywhere else.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
