Hi GAMErs!

Today’s passage is Mark 10:1-16.  Let’s go!

Mark 10:1-12 (NIV)
Jesus then left that place and went into the region of Judea and across the Jordan. Again crowds of people came to him, and as was his custom, he taught them.
Some Pharisees came and tested him by asking, “Is it lawful for a man to divorce his wife?”
“What did Moses command you?” he replied.
They said, “Moses permitted a man to write a certificate of divorce and send her away.”
“It was because your hearts were hard that Moses wrote you this law,” Jesus replied.
“But at the beginning of creation God ‘made them male and female.’
‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife,
and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two, but one.
Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”
10  When they were in the house again, the disciples asked Jesus about this.
11  He answered, “Anyone who divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her.
12  And if she divorces her husband and marries another man, she commits adultery.”

On verses 1-12:  Divorce was never God’s ideal plan for any married couple.  God’s heart is to protect and bless the marriage between a husband and wife as much as possible.  These sobering words from Jesus show that both marriage and divorce should not be taken lightly.

Mark 10:13-14 (NIV)
13  People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.
14  When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

On verses 13-14:  No one in the Bible championed children more than Jesus did.

Mark 10:15-16 (NIV)
15  I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.”
16  And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

On verses 15-16:  What does it mean to receive the kingdom of God like a little child?  Just as children are not afraid to admit when they need help, so receiving the kingdom of God requires that we be “child” enough or humble enough to admit that we need God’s help.  One quote that has stuck with me is that in the kingdom of God, the entrance doors are short; it’s because you can only enter on your hands and knees.

Jesus, I need help, Your help.  Without You I am wretched, hard-hearted, prideful, selfish, self-centered and foolish.  With You I am forgiven, accepted, secure, and hopeful.  Let Your kingdom come in me today.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
