1 Kings 9:15-28 Click here for Bible Verses

Hi GAMErs,

Today’s passage is 1 Kings 9:15-28.  Let’s go!

1 Kings 9:15-17 (NIV)
15 Here is the account of the forced labor King Solomon conscripted to build the LORD’s temple, his own palace, the supporting terraces, the wall of Jerusalem, and Hazor, Megiddo and Gezer.
16 (Pharaoh king of Egypt had attacked and captured Gezer. He had set it on fire. He killed its Canaanite inhabitants and then gave it as a wedding gift to his daughter, Solomon’s wife.
17 And Solomon rebuilt Gezer.) He built up Lower Beth Horon,

On verses 15-24:  Here we read of more towns and buildings that Solomon built (v15-19, 24), and more people whom he involved to help with constructing those buildings, including both conscripted foreigners (v20-21) and his fellow Israelites (v22-23).

Notice in verses 16 and 17, the writer of 1 Kings mentions that Pharaoh king of Egypt captured the town of Gezer, burned it down and destroyed it.  However, when Solomon king of Israel took over the destroyed town, he rebuilt it.  What can we learn from this?

Satan’s agenda is to steal, kill and destroy (John 10:10), but Jesus’ agenda is to rebuild that which the enemy has destroyed.  Has the enemy stolen, killed or destroyed a part of your life or others’ lives?  God wants to reclaim that territory and rebuild it.  He wants to use us in that rebuilding process  (Isaiah 61:4).  He is doing a rebuilding work in you and through you.  If you will work with the Holy Spirit just as Solomon’s men worked with Solomon, you will see that rebuilding work to its completion.

1 Kings 9:28 (NIV)
28 They sailed to Ophir and brought back 420 talents of gold, which they delivered to King Solomon.

On verses 25-28:  Solomon was consistent in giving his regular offerings to the Lord (v25), and he never lacked.  Notice that in the next verses Solomon is able to build ships which, with the help of men from Hiram King of Tyre, brought back gold for him.  As much as Solomon gave to the temple, God gave Solomon more in terms of people resources and financial resources.

What can we learn from this?  Are you faithful in your tithes and offerings to God?  You can never out-give God.  Be faithful in your tithes and offerings and God will make sure you have everything you need.  As Malachi 3:10 says,

Malachi 3:10 (NIV)
10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this,” says the LORD Almighty, “and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.

Heavenly Father, thank You that You are the greatest builder, and You are building to this day.  Thank You that the things which the enemy has stolen from us, You are committed to reclaiming and rebuilding.  And thank You for Your reminder that we can never out-give You.  May we be faithful in our tithes and offerings and find You adding everything we need.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
