Hi GAMErs,

Today’s passage is Joshua 15:45-63.  Let’s go!

Joshua 15:45-63 (NIV)
45  Ekron, with its surrounding settlements and villages;
46  west of Ekron, all that were in the vicinity of Ashdod, together with their villages;
47  Ashdod, its surrounding settlements and villages; and Gaza, its settlements and villages, as far as the Wadi of Egypt and the coastline of the Great Sea.
48  In the hill country: Shamir, Jattir, Socoh,
49  Dannah, Kiriath Sannah (that is, Debir),
50  Anab, Eshtemoh, Anim,
51  Goshen, Holon and Giloh–eleven towns and their villages.
52  Arab, Dumah, Eshan,
53  Janim, Beth Tappuah, Aphekah,
54  Humtah, Kiriath Arba (that is, Hebron) and Zior–nine towns and their villages.
55  Maon, Carmel, Ziph, Juttah,
56  Jezreel, Jokdeam, Zanoah,
57  Kain, Gibeah and Timnah–ten towns and their villages.
58  Halhul, Beth Zur, Gedor,
59  Maarath, Beth Anoth and Eltekon–six towns and their villages.
60  Kiriath Baal (that is, Kiriath Jearim) and Rabbah–two towns and their villages.
61  In the desert: Beth Arabah, Middin, Secacah,
62  Nibshan, the City of Salt and En Gedi–six towns and their villages.
63  Judah could not dislodge the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the people of Judah.

On verses 45-63:  These verses conclude the list of towns and villages given to the tribe of Judah.  When I read this list the following things jump out at me:

1.     Ekron, Ashdod and Gaza (v45-47) were all cities occupied by the Philistines (see Joshua 13;3), but they are allotted here to Judah.  Judah would need to go in and take over these cities.

2.     Jerusalem was one of the cities that was allotted to Judah.  But notice what  verse 63 says: “Judah could not dislodge the Jebusites, who were living in Jerusalem; to this day the Jebusites live there with the people of Judah.”  Jerusalem would remain under Jebusite control until centuries later (in approximately 1,000 B.C.) King David would arrive and capture Jerusalem from the Jebusites, as detailed in 2 Samuel 5:6-10.

What can we learn from these two points?  There are some things that God has given to His people to occupy and control that are currently in the control of our enemy, Satan.  Part of stepping into our God-given destiny is to go in Jesus’ name and wrest control away from Satan and let Jesus take over those things.  Is there something in your life, your home or your city that you know belongs to God but that the enemy Satan has been controlling or occupying so far?  God’s peace, joy and strength will fill your life, home and city more when you let Jesus take over that area.

Heavenly Father, please help me to see if there is any area in my life, home or city that belongs to You but is currently being occupied or controlled by the enemy Satan.  Please give me courage and wisdom to know how to go in Jesus’ name and take that area over and let Jesus take control over that area.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
