Leviticus  26:1-13  (CLICK HERE FOR BIBLE VERSES)

Hi GAMErs,

Today’s passage is Leviticus 26:1-13. With a humble heart, see what sticks out to you in this passage.  Is there a verse, a phrase, or a lesson you think the Holy Spirit may be highlighting for you in this passage?  After you’ve thought about the passage yourself a bit, read the GAME sharing below.  Let’s go!

Leviticus 26:1-2 (NIV)
“‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the LORD your God.
“‘Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the LORD.

On verses 1-2:  While verses 3-13 will show us all the blessings that the Lord promised to give the Israelites if they would only obey Him, verses 1-2 teach us an important, counterbalancing truth: we are to obey God and worship Him only – and not any idol – not simply because of what God will do for us in return, but because of who God is.  That is why after both verses 1 and 2, God follows up a command with a statement about who He is: “I am the Lord your God” in verse 1 and “I am the Lord” in verse 2.  Regardless of what God does for us, the fact that God is God, the King over everything, is reason enough to worship and obey Him.

Leviticus 26:3-13 (NIV)
“‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands,
I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit.
Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.
“‘I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove savage beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.
You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you.
Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
“‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.
10  You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new.
11  I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you.
12  I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.
13  I am the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.

On verses 3-13:  God’s message to the Israelites here is simple: obey me and you will be tremendously blessed in every way.  Verses 4 to 13 contain a list of ways that God promised to blessed the Israelites if they obeyed Him:

– provision for their every need (v4)

– safety and security (v5)

– peace and rest (v6)

– a life where they don’t need to fear anyone or anything (v6-7)

– amazing success and victory over their enemies (v7-8)

– God’s favour on their life (v9)

– fruitfulness and increase (v9)

– God’s faithfulness in their lives (v9 – “I will keep my covenant with you”)

– more blessing than they could contain (v10)

– God’s presence and acceptance (v11)

– a close relationship with God (v12)

– belonging to God and God’s people (v12)

– freedom from things that once bound them (v13)

– confidence, dignity and joy (v13 – “enabled you to walk with heads held high”)

These were the blessings God promised to give those who obeyed Him fully.

While we could never fully follow God’s decrees and obey His commands on our own, I’m so glad that there’s Someone who did it for us: Jesus Christ.  Jesus lived the life that we couldn’t live, a life that perfectly obeyed God’s Word.  And if you have received Jesus Christ by faith, all of the blessings that come from His obedience, including all the blessings described in Leviticus 26:3-13, are yours as well.  And as we continue to walk with God, the more we cooperate with God’s Spirit and seek to obey God wholeheartedly, the more blessing we will ultimately experience.

Join me in praying this prayer over your life today:

Lord, because You are God, the King and Ruler of everything, I confess that You are worthy of my worship and obedience no matter what.  At the same time, thank You Lord Jesus that in You I have:

– provision for my every need (v4)

– safety and security (v5)

– peace and rest (v6)

– a life where I don’t need to fear anyone or anything (v6-7)

– amazing success and victory over my Enemy (v7-8)

– God’s favour on my life (v9)

– fruitfulness and increase (v9)

– God’s faithfulness in my life (v9 – “I will keep my covenant with you”)

– more blessing than I can contain (v10)

– God’s presence and acceptance (v11)

– a close relationship with God (v12)

– belonging to God and God’s people (v12)

– freedom from things that once bound me (v13)

– confidence, dignity and joy so that I can walk with my head held high (v13)

Thank You so much, Lord, for every undeserved blessing that came to me because You obeyed on my behalf.  I proclaim and receive these blessings over my life today.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
