Jesus Is Praying For You

Hi GAMErs!

Today’s passage is Deuteronomy 9:13-29.  Let’s go!

Deuteronomy 9:13-29 (NIV)
13  And the LORD said to me, “I have seen this people, and they are a stiff-necked people indeed!
14  Let me alone, so that I may destroy them and blot out their name from under heaven. And I will make you into a nation stronger and more numerous than they.”
15  So I turned and went down from the mountain while it was ablaze with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.
16  When I looked, I saw that you had sinned against the LORD your God; you had made for yourselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf. You had turned aside quickly from the way that the LORD had commanded you…….

On verses 13-29:  In Deuteronomy 9:13-29, Moses describes two recurring patterns in Israel’s history so far.  First, the Israelites kept rebelling against God.  As Moses says in verse 24: “You have been rebellious against the Lord ever since I have known you.”

But second, each time the Israelites rebelled against God, Moses was there to stand in the gap, to intercede and pray for his fellow Israelites.  God responded to Moses’ prayers and showed mercy to the Israelites.

God’s Grace and Faithfulness Toward You

Hi GAMErs!

Today’s passage is Deuteronomy 9:1-12.  Let’s go!

Deuteronomy 9:1-3 (NIV)
1  Hear, O Israel. You are now about to cross the Jordan to go in and dispossess nations greater and stronger than you, with large cities that have walls up to the sky.
2  The people are strong and tall–Anakites! You know about them and have heard it said: “Who can stand up against the Anakites?”
3  But be assured today that the LORD your God is the one who goes across ahead of you like a devouring fire. He will destroy them; he will subdue them before you. And you will drive them out and annihilate them quickly, as the LORD has promised you.

On verses 1-3:  Moses acknowledged that as part of conquering the promised land the Israelites would need to face a strong and tall people called the Anakites.  Yet Moses reminds the Israelites that the Lord will go ahead of them like a devouring fire and help the Israelites to overcome them quickly.

Here we see that recurring theme in Deuteronomy again:  with God there may be seemingly gigantic challenges in front of you, but God goes ahead of you so you don’t need to be afraid.  With God, you can conquer the giants in front of you.

Keys to a Happy Heart

Hi  GAMErs!

Today’s passage is Deuteronomy 8:10-20, in which we learn a number of keys to a happy heart.  Let’s go!

Deuteronomy 8:10 (NIV)
10  When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you.

On verse 10:  A lot of us out of habit pray before we eat, which is good.  How about try praying after we eat!  That is, when you’ve received something good, even what might seem ordinary or small, praise the Lord for it, for every good gift comes from God.  What is something “ordinary” or “small” you received today that you can thank God for?

Deuteronomy 8:11-14 (NIV)
11  Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.
12  Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,
13  and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied,
14  then your heart will become proud and you will forget the LORD your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.

Who is the Lord?

Hi  GAMErs!

Today’s passage is Deuteronomy 8:1-9.  Let’s go!

Deuteronomy 8:1 (NIV)
1  Be careful to follow every command I am giving you today, so that you may live and increase and may enter and possess the land that the LORD promised on oath to your forefathers.

On verse 1:  Whenever you read the Bible, a helpful question to ask yourself is, “What does this passage teach me about who God is?”  Each of the verses here in this passage teaches us something about God.

Verse 1 teaches us that God is our King and Commander General.  Just as God commanded the Israelites for their good and their growth, so every one of His commands is for our good and for our growth.

Deuteronomy 8:2 (NIV)
2  Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years, to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep his commands.

Verse 2 teaches us that God is our Teacher who tests us to see what is in our heart.  Just as God led the Israelites for 40 years in the desert to see what is in their heart, so God puts us in situations so that He can see what we will do with the freedom He has given to us.

Knowledge flows like spring water from the wise;  fools are leaky faucets, dripping nonsense.

The Blessing of the “Little By Little”

Hi  GAMErs!

Today’s passage is Deuteronomy 7:12-26.  Let’s go!

Deuteronomy 7:12-15 (NIV)
12  If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the LORD your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your forefathers.
13  He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land–your grain, new wine and oil–the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land that he swore to your forefathers to give you.
14  You will be blessed more than any other people; none of your men or women will be childless, nor any of your livestock without young.
15  The LORD will keep you free from every disease. He will not inflict on you the horrible diseases you knew in Egypt, but he will inflict them on all who hate you.

On verses 12-15: Through verses 13-14 I am reminded that whether it’s family and children, material and financial wealth, or physical health, every good thing we have in life is a blessing from God.  As James 1:17 says, “every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father”.  So when we experience any good gift, let’s be sure to thank God.

Knowledge flows like spring water from the wise;  fools are leaky faucets, dripping nonsense.
