〈約書亞記〉 18:1以色列的全會眾都聚集在示羅，把會幕設立在那裡，那地已經被他們制伏了。

示羅是希伯來聖經中提到的一座古代城市，位於以法蓮山地，位於伯特利東北的小山岡上，城的四周都是高山，東有大泉，從伯特利到示劍的大路由此經過。以色列人攻佔迦南後，在此安營，會幕也設在示羅，成為固定的建築物。在很長時期中，示羅是以色列人活動的中心，每年在此都舉行一個特別節日。
約書亞從示羅派出各支派的代表，勘察迦南地的詳細狀況，然後按城邑分作七份，拈閹分給便雅憫、西緬、西布倫等七個未曾在約但河東岸取得土地的支派。其遺址是今伯特利東北 16公里、示劍東南18公里的賽依侖廢墟。（資料來自以斯拉百科網）
〈約書亞記〉 17:18 山地也要歸你，雖是樹林，你也可以砍伐。靠近之地必歸你。迦南人雖有鐵車，雖是強盛，你也能把他們趕出去。

這段經文說約瑟的子孫，主要是講到瑪拿西。瑪拿西是個大族，共有五萬二千七百名。他們在約但河東分到基列和巴珊地；在河東河西也分到不少地。瑪拿西的孫女們指的就是西羅非哈的女兒們，摩西曾為她們的哀告求問神。她們為了讓父親留名而要求承受父親的產業。摩西也因而訂下了女性承受產業的條例，她們不可以嫁給別的支派；若是要嫁給別的支派，就得放棄土地。免得自己宗族的土地成為別人的，自己支派的土地就會減少。
從瑪拿西得到的分地來看，他們拿到了很好的地方，包括約旦河東大部份的耶斯列平原，還有十足輕重的米吉多。「米吉多(Megiddo)，是連貫非洲 與亞洲的古代著名地方，位置連貫兩洲軍事與貿易路線的要衝。
We cannot win both the applause of people and the “well done” of Christ. Do you play both sides?
Many in the West did in the years leading up to World War II. In 1938 Neville Chamberlain met with Adolf Hitler. The British prime minister had long championed a policy of appeasing the dictator’s aggressions, so he agreed to Hitler’s demands. Six months later Hitler occupied all of Czechoslovakia. Next he invaded Poland, and the war began. For a decade the world watched as Hitler flexed his muscles. Yet freedom-loving nations waffled between apathy and fear. Many simply couldn’t pick a side.
The prophet Elijah once asked, “How long are you going to struggle with the two choices? If the Lord is God, follow Him” (1 Kings 18:21 NASB).
〈約書亞記〉 16:10 他們沒有趕出住基色的迦南人，迦南人卻住在以法蓮人中間，成為做苦工的僕人，直到今日。

在〈民數記〉26章裡，神要摩西按著人名的數目分產業給他們。人多的，要把產業多分給他們；人少的，要把產業少分給他們。要照被數的人數，把產業分給各人。要按著所拈的鬮，看人數多少，把產業分給他們。根據在摩押平原數算的人數如下：猶大的各族，共有七萬六千五百名。以法蓮子孫的各族，共有三萬二千五百名。瑪拿西的各族，他們中間被數的，共有五萬二千七百名。便雅憫的子孫，共有四萬五千六百名。 魯本的各族，共有四萬三千七百三十名。但所有的各族，共有六萬四千四百名。以薩迦的各族，共有六萬四千三百名。西布倫的各族，共有六萬零五百名。亞設子孫的各族，共有五萬三千四百名。拿弗他利的各族，共有四萬五千四百名。迦得子孫的各族，共有四萬零五百名。西緬的各族，共有二萬二千二百名。
Dare we think the unthinkable? That God will hear our prayers, that he will listen when we speak? If you were to pray a faith-empowered prayer, what would you say? Then say it! Let faith fuel your prayers. And let prayers put starch in your faith.
Will God give you what you request? Yes, he will. He may do so in a different form than you ask for or a different time frame than you prefer, but “it is [Jesus] who is the ‘Yes’ to all of God’s promises” (2 Corinthians 1:20 GNT).
Let’s renew our commitment to unreasonable, unquenchable, unthinkable prayer. Let’s ask God to resurrect hope that has perished and dreams that are buried.

在拈鬮分地後，猶大支派所分到的地界，大部分是在迦南地的南部，包括了現在著名的希伯崙、伯利恒和耶路撒冷等地。雅各祝福猶大：「你弟兄們必讚美你，你手必掐住仇敵的頸項，你父親的兒子們必向你下拜。猶大是個小獅子。我兒啊，你抓了食便上去。你屈下身去，臥如公獅，蹲如母獅，誰敢惹你？ 圭必不離猶大，杖必不離他兩腳之間，直等細羅來到，萬民都必歸順（創49:8-10）」。約書亞介紹的第一個支派就是猶大支派，因為猶大支派出了一個信心的偉人迦勒，然後又出了另一位英雄俄陀聶。
When the child of Elijah’s friend died, the prophet prayed for the boy. “And God listened to Elijah’s prayer…Elijah picked the boy up, carried him downstairs from the loft, and gave him to his mother. ‘Here’s your son,’ said Elijah, ‘alive!’” 1 Kings 17:22-23 MSG).
The power of praying it through. Elijah believed in it. Jesus taught it. He told his followers “that it was necessary for them to pray consistently and never quit” (Luke 18:1 MSG). Take the dead and dying portions of your life—the vigor that has faded, the faith that has dwindled—and lay them before the Lord. And next to them place our society, which seems sicker day by day.
The theologian Samuel Taylor Coleridge called prayer “the greatest achievement of the Christian’s warfare upon earth.” If you want to take a stand against the enemy, hit your knees.
〈約書亞記〉 14: 11 我還是強壯，像摩西打發我去的那天一樣。無論是爭戰是出入，我的力量那時如何，現在還是如何。

相信每一個超過六七十歲的人聽到迦勒的話都會羨慕不已。當別人正感到日頭、光明、月亮、星宿變為黑暗，眼睛看不清楚；街門關閉，推磨的響聲微小，耳朵聽不見；人怕高處，路上有驚慌，杏樹開花，蚱蜢成為重擔，膽子變得很小；銀鏈折斷，金罐破裂，瓶子在泉旁損壞，血管狹窄、心臟、腎都不好使了；他在八十五歲時依然擁有四十歲的力量，何等令人羨慕。
在約書亞讓以色列的九個半支派拈鬮分地業時，迦勒勇敢地提出了他的要求。他向約書亞提出神當年藉著摩西給他的應許：「你腳所踏之地定要歸你和你的子孫永遠為業，因為你專心跟從耶和華─我的神。」
Elijah wasn’t equipped with unique-to-him abilities. He wasn’t embedded with superpowers. James says, “Elijah was a human being just like us. He prayed that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years!” (James 5:17 NCV). Elijah became Elijah by praying that way.
Let a man spend a night fasting and praying at the bedside of his sick child, and that father will not be the same man. Let a young mother pour out her complaint to God over the death of her young child, and that young mother will be forever changed. Let a church challenge God to purge sin and send revival, and there is no way that church will be the same.
Prayer changes the heart of the one who prays. And prayer touches the heart of the One who hears it.

曾任台灣財政部長的白培英先生寫過一篇文章：「春天，不要留白」:「春天就這樣來了，在暖陽煦風中，在萬紫嫣紅中來了。可是，為時無幾，當油桐花悄悄地染白了山頭，一瞬間，春天便倏然而別，不給人挽留的機會。想這個春天又將無聲無息地過去了。開春以來除了日常生活的瑣瑣碎碎外，竟還沒有做任何特別有意義的事。去年呢？也沒有做甚麼特別的事；前年呢？大前年呢？也想不起做過甚麼值得回味的事。你瞿然警覺，這些年的大好春天，你竟這樣白過了。人生能有多少春天呢？」現在是夏天的尾聲，又何嘗不是這樣的感覺?
