Esther 7:1-10  Click here for Bible Verses

Hi GAMErs,

Today’s passage is Esther 7:1-10.  Let’s go!

Esther 7:10 (NIV)
10  So they hanged Haman on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the king’s fury subsided.

On verses 1-10:  Here Esther risks her life and stands in the gap on behalf of her people, pleading with King Xerxes for the deliverance of the Jews from sure destruction.  Similarly, Jesus would later stand in the gap for us as our advocate in the presence of God the king.  He would sacrifice His life so that we could be delivered from sure destruction for our sin.  Like Esther was to the Jews, Jesus is the hero of our story.

Here we also see Haman being accused and convicted of doing evil.   As punishment Haman is publicly killed by being hung from the crosspiece of a gallows for all to see.  Only then did the king’s fury subside (v10).  This will sound shocking, but in certain ways Jesus is like Haman.  For like Haman, Jesus would be accused, convicted, and punished by being hung from a crosspiece for all to see.  Only upon Jesus’ death would God’s wrath against sinners subside.  The crucial difference between Haman and Jesus however is that Jesus did no wrong; rather Jesus was punished for our sins.  Though Jesus was innocent, he allowed himself to be called guilty.  Though he was really the hero, he allowed himself to be the villain.  It reminds me of what Isaiah prophesies about Jesus in Isaiah 53:5-6:

But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.
We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Jesus, thank You for being my advocate who speaks to the King on my behalf.  Thank You for even more assuming the role of the villain in my place, letting yourself be punished for my sin.  In doing so, You became my hero and my Saviour, and You will always be worthy of my worship and adoration.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
