Hi GAMErs!

Today’s passage is Exodus 15:1-18.  Let’s go!

Exodus 15:1-3 (NIV)
Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. The horse and its rider he has hurled into the sea.
The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him, my father’s God, and I will exalt him.
The LORD is a warrior; the LORD is his name.

On verses 1-3:  In Exodus 15:1-18 we see Moses and the Israelites responding to the incredible way God parted the Red Sea to rescue them from the Egyptian army.  They respond by singing a song of worship to the LORD.  In light of all that God has done for us and the ways He saved us and provided for us, every day let our response be to worship the LORD.  Worship is always the appropriate response to who God is and what God does.

Exodus 15:4-18 (NIV)
Pharaoh’s chariots and his army he has hurled into the sea. The best of Pharaoh’s officers are drowned in the Red Sea.
The deep waters have covered them; they sank to the depths like a stone.
“Your right hand, O LORD, was majestic in power. Your right hand, O LORD, shattered the enemy.
In the greatness of your majesty you threw down those who opposed you. You unleashed your burning anger; it consumed them like stubble.
By the blast of your nostrils the waters piled up. The surging waters stood firm like a wall; the deep waters congealed in the heart of the sea.
“The enemy boasted, ‘I will pursue, I will overtake them. I will divide the spoils; I will gorge myself on them. I will draw my sword and my hand will destroy them.’
10  But you blew with your breath, and the sea covered them. They sank like lead in the mighty waters.
11  “Who among the gods is like you, O LORD? Who is like you– majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?
12  You stretched out your right hand and the earth swallowed them.

13  “In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling.
14  The nations will hear and tremble; anguish will grip the people of Philistia.
15  The chiefs of Edom will be terrified, the leaders of Moab will be seized with trembling, the people of Canaan will melt away;
16  terror and dread will fall upon them. By the power of your arm they will be as still as a stone– until your people pass by, O LORD, until the people you bought pass by.
17  You will bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance– the place, O LORD, you made for your dwelling, the sanctuary, O Lord, your hands established.
18  The LORD will reign for ever and ever.”

On verses 4-18:  In verses 4 through 12 Moses sings about how the LORD WAS faithful to Israel.  Notice he talks in past tense. Then in verses 11 through 18, Moses sings about how God IS and WILL BE faithful to Israel.  Moses changes to talking in present and future tense.  For example:

– “In Your unfailing love You WILL lead the people you have redeemed” (v13)
– “In Your strength You WILL guide them” (v13)
– “The nations WILL hear and tremble” (v14)
– “You WILL bring them in and plant them on the mountain of your inheritance” (v17)

Because Moses saw God’s faithfulness in the past, Moses was confident of God’s faithfulness in the future.

What’s the lesson here? If God WAS faithful to you in the past, He WILL be faithful to you today and tomorrow.  If God DID guide you yesterday, He WILL guide you today and tomorrow.

Whenever there are big problems in front of you, remember God’s faithfulness to you in the past.  Then you can proclaim that just as God delivered you and provided for you before, God is faithful to deliver you and provide for you again in the future.

If, by dying on the cross and rising again, Jesus conquered man’s two biggest problems – sin and death – there is no problem today or tomorrow that He will not help you conquer. Jesus is bigger than cancer, financial worries, family problems, relationship problems, uncertainties in your future.  He is bigger than your biggest hurts and failures.

So if you are going through a big challenge today, remember God’s faithfulness yesterday to give you hope for tomorrow.  You don’t need to worry.  You just need to worship.

God, because You reign forever and ever, because Your faithfulness to me in the past is a clue about Your faithfulness to me right now and in the future, thank You that I can move forward today with hope.  In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
