Hi GAMErs!
Today’s passage is Romans 11:25-36. Let’s go!
Romans 11:25-36 (NIV)
25 I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in.
26 And so all Israel will be saved, as it is written: “The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob.
27 And this is my covenant with them when I take away their sins.”
28 As far as the gospel is concerned, they are enemies on your account; but as far as election is concerned, they are loved on account of the patriarchs,
29 for God’s gifts and his call are irrevocable.
30 Just as you who were at one time disobedient to God have now received mercy as a result of their disobedience,
31 so they too have now become disobedient in order that they too may now receive mercy as a result of God’s mercy to you.
32 For God has bound all men over to disobedience so that he may have mercy on them all.
33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!
34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”
35 “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?”
36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
On verse 36: Paul says that all things are FROM God, THROUGH God, and FOR God. What does that mean exactly?
“All things are FROM God.” Explanation: God is the creator of the universe. He is omnipotent (all-powerful) and omniscient (all-knowing). Nothing happens in this world without Him allowing it. In this way all things are FROM God. So why would God allow evil and suffering? We cannot know all the reasons. As Paul says in verse 33 “How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out”. But we know from the Bible that God allows pain for at least 3 reasons: to refine us, to reveal His power through us, and to remind us that earth is not our final home (that eternity, whether in heaven with Jesus or in hell without Jesus, is waiting for us).
“All things are THROUGH God.” Explanation: God is the sustainer of the universe. Without Him, life in our universe would not be possible. The Bible says that everything in this universe is held together by the word of Christ (see Colossians 1:17 and Hebrews 1:3). Every breath you take, every law of nature — all of it continues to be possible because of God’s sustaining power. Are you facing a difficult challenge today? Rest assured that God’s power is here to sustain you. He will give you everything you need to get through. As Philippians 4:13 says, I can do ALL things THROUGH Christ who gives me strength.
“All things are FOR God.” Explanation: Why does God allow anything to exist or sustain anything by His power? One reason: He does it all for His glory. Everything God allows you to have in your life – whether pleasant or painful, good or bad – is ultimately not for your happiness or your suffering. It’s for His glory. The reason you and I exist is for God’s glory. The reason every problem exists is ultimately so that God will show His glory through that problem. It’s not about us; it’s all about Him.
Since all things are FROM God, let’s thank Him for everything He has done.
Since all things are THROUGH God, let’s rely on His power to sustain us.
Since all things are FOR God, let’s live for His glory.
Father, since all things are from You, through You and for You, I thank You for everything You have done. I rely on Your power to sustain me today. And I pray that I would live for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!
