四福音记载耶稣在「七日的第一日」复活(可16:9,约20:1),也就是星期日,初代教会信徒会在当天聚集,记念耶稣复活,因此称为「主日」,当时仍采犹太历法,主日是从星期六的日落时分开始。
守主日的最早证据是林前16:1-2的经文,保罗谈到每逢七日的第一日为圣徒捐钱(奉献),徒20:7也记载七日的第一日,保罗在特罗亚与门徒聚会擘饼。主后321年,信主后的罗马皇帝君士坦丁一世颁布法令,正式把星期日定为商业假期。
基督教教会选定星期日(公历一周的第一日)为「主日」,除了记念耶稣复活外,它使人想起神创造的第一日,神在这一天造了光,而基督教的五旬节也在星期日发生。基督教的敬拜本质上是记念耶稣复活的事实,显出神的救赎目的已胜利地成就,因此,主日的气氛是充满喜乐和赞美的。
以色列人守「安息日」是记念以色列人与神关系的归属和联结,信主的人守「主日」是记念信主的人与主关系的归属和联结,两个日期同样代表与神联结,并不冲突。重点是基督徒守「主日」,已经跳脱以色列人守「安息日」的规矩和守则,耶稣是安息日的主,祂已经释放安息日的束缚,让信主的人可以全然委身,将「主日」分别为圣、把它奉献给神。
对信主的人而言,得安息不再是被限制在「安息日」或「主日」,有主在我们里面,我们随时得享安息。耶稣教导我们:「凡劳苦担重担的人可以到我这里来,我就使你们得安息。我心里柔和谦卑,你们当负我的轭,学我的样式;这样,你们心里就必得享安息(太11:28-29)。」
学习负主的轭,学主的样式,有主在我们里面,我们就必得享安息。
