The Gift That Trouble Brings

Today’s passage is John 12:27-36.  Let’s go!

John 12:27 (NIV) 
27  “Now my heart is troubled, and what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? No, it was for this very reason I came to this hour. 

On verse 27:  Jesus was troubled by the prospect of dying, showing his real humanity (v27a).  Yet rather than asking the Father to rescue him from having to die, Jesus reminds himself that that is why he came (v27b). 

Taking a hint from Jesus, when I go through trouble or hardship, sometimes it helps to remind myself, “JB, it’s part of the calling.  This is just part of living out the life God called you to live on this earth, so don’t cry and complain as if something strange were happening to you.  This is what you were made for.”  Let’s learn to boldly take on trouble Jesus’ way.

The Savior We All Need

Today’s passage is John 12:20-26.  Let’s go!

John 12:20-22 (NIV) 
20  Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast.
21  They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.”
22  Philip went to tell Andrew; Andrew and Philip in turn told Jesus.

On verses 20-22:  Here we see not just Jews but Greeks wanting to see Jesus.  It’s a reminder that Jesus didn’t just come to be the long-awaited Messiah the Jews were waiting for.  Even more Jesus came to be the saviour that the entire world needs.  Jesus himself showed this when he would talk about having “other sheep that are not of this pen” that he must bring in also (John 15:16).  He would show this again and again when he reached out to a Samaritan woman in John 4, a Roman centurion in Luke 7, and a Canaanite woman in Matthew 15:22.  After Jesus’ resurrection Jesus would commission his disciples to go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19).  Praise God! No matter what your background, nationality or culture, Jesus is the saviour we need.

进窄门、走小路 (上)

〈马太福音〉7章13-14节 你们要进窄门。因为引到灭亡，那门是宽的，路是大的，进去的人也多；引到永生，那门是窄的，路是小的，找著的人也少。

我们曾提到基督教伦理的金科玉律：「你要人怎样待你，你就要怎样待人」。这是一种主动的伦理，也是基督徒当有的生活。我们不是等别人关心我们、尊重我们，我们才关心别人、尊重别人，因为那是不好意思领受他人的恩情而不得不有的一种回报，是一种被动的伦理。光向来是主动的，是从太阳的本体照射到所有的客体，耶稣基督教导基督徒要在世上作光，所以我们应当从心而发，使我们周围的人蒙受光照，在我们主动的生命影响下被引导，因而看见与得着真正的福气。基督徒不能等人对我们好才对人好，我们要处处把我们的恩爱、我们的关怀、我们对别人造就性的力量主动积极地发挥出来，以建造性的生命影响人、造就人，使别人与我们同得福音的好处，领受新生命所带来的力量。

　　这种主动带来正面影响的建造性生命，就是主耶稣自己所表现出来的生命，主耶稣所活出来的样式也成为我们的榜样，激励我们过一个具有主动影响性的生活。这种对人的爱是一种丰盛生命的流露，这样的人是爱惜自己生命的人，他照着对自己的爱来关怀别人，因着自己生命的丰盛产生对人可能有的影响。基督徒都应该主动积极从自己生命发出来的爱来爱别人，此即基督教伦理的金科玉律。大凡宗教论到道德律都教导我们这类的事情，但没有像基督教这样主动、积极产生对他人的影响。耶稣基督与所有教主不同的地方，在于所有的教主都是来自世界，耶稣基督则是自父出来；所有的教主是罪人盼望在生活中产生最好的道德原动力，但本身却与动力的源头脱节，但耶稣基督是上帝，祂是一切真理、爱、生命、伦理源头的总源头。故此，唯有靠着基督，我们才能做到这一点。

你们要进窄门－－这是命令，不是选择。

　　接下去耶稣说：「你们要进窄门」，这是吩咐以及命令，因为如果不进窄门，就是进到引到灭亡的路，那门是宽的，路是大的，进去的人也多；引到永生的那门是窄的，那路是小的，找到的人也少。当人虚心寻求上帝，成为天国的子民，等候天国的降临，八福告诉我们圣徒道德的生活。接着，耶稣发了一道命令：「你们要进窄门」。耶稣并不是说你们要「选择」窄门，而是说你们「要进」窄门。

Unstoppable Jesus

Today’s passage is John 12:12-19.  Let’s go!

John 12:12-16 (NIV) 
12  The next day the great crowd that had come for the Feast heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
13  They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting, “Hosanna!” “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” “Blessed is the King of Israel!”
14  Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written,
15  “Do not be afraid, O Daughter of Zion; see, your king is coming, seated on a donkey’s colt.”
16  At first his disciples did not understand all this. Only after Jesus was glorified did they realize that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.

On verses 12-16:  Here Jesus arrives in Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover.  His entrance is met with great fanfare from the massive crowd who were expecting him.  Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem is eye-catching for a number of reasons.  First, Jesus is riding on a donkey (v14).  Second, the people were greeting him with palm branches (v13).  Why a donkey and why palm branches?  Let’s look at that now.

There are at least two reasons Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. 

祝福与咒诅

2015年2月10日遭伊斯兰恐怖分子ISIS劫持的年轻美籍女人质凯拉.穆勒(Kayla Mueller)被证实已遇害。凯拉在高中就热心于社区服务，曾获美国〈义工服务总统金奖〉，大学毕业之后在印度北部、以色列和巴勒斯坦的人道主义团体工作，也是以色列地区非洲难民开发中心的志愿者。2011年，她到法国学法语，预备日后到非洲工作；一年后到了土耳其和叙利亚边境与丹麦难民委员会和人道主义组织，一起帮助那些因战争而被迫流亡的难民。2013年8月3日凯拉和她的叙利亚籍男友在叙利亚阿勒颇被ISIS绑架，她的男友数天后获释，曾回去要求ISIS释放凯拉，但没有结果。2014年7月，美国特别军人曾向凯拉所在的监狱采取营救行动，可惜数天前人质已被转移到另一个地方。但是他们找到凯拉给父母的一封信。

凯拉说，「若我说自己在这个经历中『受苦』，那只是因为我知道你们因为我受了多少的苦。我永远也不会要求你们饶恕我，我根本不配被饶恕。」凯拉表示，她一直谨记妈妈对她的教导，「这一切的最终最终，我们唯一拥有的就是神。」而且因为这个信念，她才能够在狱中坚持下去，她说，「当我来到这样的一个地方，我才领悟到这句话里面的每一个字。我向神完全的降服下来，因为真的并没有别的人(可以倚靠)了。因着神和你们的祷告，被温柔的保护着。我经过黑暗、光明，并且我学习到了，即使我在监狱里，我是自由的。我非常感恩。我发现了，在每个处境里都有好的一面，有时候我们只是要去找一找。每天我不住的为你们祷告，希望你们可以跟我一样，靠近神、降服于神，而且你们能够在爱中联结，互相支持。」

2011年凯拉的父亲生日时，她写给父亲一封信。她表示愿意终生回应神对她的呼召，去服事那些在苦难中的人。「我在那些痛苦的眼神里面，遇见了神。神如何向我显现，我将永远这样的追随祂。」凯拉写道，「我会一直追随神。有人在教会找到神，有人在大自然中找到神，有人在爱里面找到神，我却是在苦难中找到神。我知道了自己一生的使命已经好一段时间了，那就是用我的双手去减轻别人的痛苦。」

记念你和神的关系

〈申命记 〉26: 18 耶和华今日照祂所应许你的，也认你为祂的子民，使你谨守祂的一切诫命。

阅读经文：〈申命记〉 26:1-19

在印度有一句哲谚：“If you walk fast, walk alone ; If you walk far, walk together.”意谓一个人如果想走得快，只图眼前近利，大可一个人独来独往或单打独斗；若想走得远，走得稳，最好要有团队（Team work）观念，重视团队精神，找一些志同道合的伙伴长期合作。如此，无论是个人事业或企业经营，皆能长久。 职场上也流行一句话：「二十岁到三十岁，靠专业、靠体力；三十岁到四十岁，靠朋友、靠关系；四十岁到五十岁，只能靠钱了。」这些都讲到人与人之间的关系何等重要。

华人对「关系」的概念更不模糊，最明白：「有关系，就没关系；没关系，就有关系了！」这句话也只有华人才听得懂。在这一章里，神提到的就是祂和以色列人的关系，以色列人和以色列人之间的关系。神提醒在以色列人进入迦南地之后，必有收成之时，一旦有了收成时，要立刻把初熟之物拿到祭司那里，宣告自己已经进了神的应许之地。随后祭司要把这初熟之物放在神的坛前，献物的人要在神的面前陈明自己和神有什么关系。〈箴言〉 27章10节说：「你的朋友和父亲的朋友，你都不可离弃。」在那时，谁是以色列人父亲亚伯拉罕的朋友呢？就是耶和华神了(赛41:8)。

当我们来到神的面前奉献时，我们要怎样陈明自己和神的关系呢？神要以色列人明白为何要奉献，神也要我们知道自己为何要奉献。不是马马虎虎的奉献，不是潦潦草草的奉献，也不是糊里糊涂、随随便便的奉献。就好像我们不会拿着最好的东西满街随便送，总是有原因才会去送最好的礼物。当我们把自己预备好去服事神时，当我们把钱放进奉献袋时，要明白不是教会在向你捐钱，更不是在向你要钱。而是我们来到神的面前把自己的一点心意献给神，所以假如我们不明白自己和神的关系，那个礼物就献得不明不白了。

Today’s passage is John 12:1-11.  Let’s go!

John 12:1-3 (NIV) 
1  Six days before the Passover, Jesus arrived at Bethany, where Lazarus lived, whom Jesus had raised from the dead. 
2  Here a dinner was given in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, while Lazarus was among those reclining at the table with him. 
3  Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume; she poured it on Jesus’ feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.

On verses 1-3:  At Bethany, a small village just outside of Jerusalem to the southeast, Jesus is at a dinner given in his honor less than a week before Passover.  At the dinner, Lazarus reclines, Martha serves, and Mary worships.  To me this is a good picture of the church.  It’s a place where you can rest like Lazarus, serve like Martha and worship like Mary.

Also, notice what happens when Mary pours the perfume on Jesus’ feet and wipes his feet with her hair: the fragrance of the perfume fills the whole house.  

凡事敬畏神

〈申命记〉 25:3 只可打他四十下，不可过数。若过数，便是轻贱你的弟兄了。

阅读经文：〈申命记〉 25:1-19

在这一章里，有的经文在新约里引用过，有的在旧约里引用过，您可记得？所以我们不要以为摩西讲了这么多，谁记得住啊？以色列人不仅把它们都记住了，而且一直传到如今。以色列人从小就背摩西五经，背得以色列人都很聪明，拿下世界上最多诺贝尔奖。现代有许多最先进的发明也都是从以色列出来的。神的律法好像政府建造公路，若在公路上开车就安全，若要自作聪明去走自己的路，就要绕许多弯路，甚至碰到许多危险。

在神的规定下，有诉讼时，作恶的人要受惩时，不可超过四十下。原因是，若打超过四十下，就是轻贱弟兄。轻贱就是侮辱。在这里神让我们看到，惩罚里应该有分寸，也应该有节制。惩罚是为了管教，不是泄忿。保罗在〈哥林多后书〉十一章里说，他曾被犹太人鞭打五次，每次四十减去一下，就是每次被打卅九下。这是按著律法的规定。而主耶稣当年是被彼拉多手下的罗马兵丁鞭打，罗马人没有这个律法，主耶稣被交在外邦人的手中，所以所受的必然超过四十下以上的鞭打。换言之，耶稣为了人类的罪而遭受到不人道的侮辱，被轻贱了。

其次，保罗在〈提摩太前书〉五章和〈哥林多前书〉九章里，都曾经引用这句话：「牛在场上踹谷的时候，不可笼住牠的嘴。」来说明工人得工价是应当的，所以传福音的人得收入或教会的供应也是应当的。其实这就好像旧约的祭司无产无业，也是靠着众人的奉献维生。他们是神的仆人，为众人服侍神，所以神要会众负起供应他们的责任。

Let Jesus Take Your Place

Today’s passage is John 11:45-57.  Let’s go!

John 11:45-48 (NIV) 
45  Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, put their faith in him. 
46  But some of them went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done. 
47  Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the Sanhedrin. “What are we accomplishing?” they asked. “Here is this man performing many miraculous signs. 
48  If we let him go on like this, everyone will believe in him, and then the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

On verses 45-48:  The Sanhedrin, being the ruling council of the Jewish people, meet to discuss what to do about the popular, miracle performing Jesus.  The chief priests and Pharisees were concerned that the kind of following Jesus was getting would get the entire Jewish people in trouble with the Roman government and cause them in particular to lose their place of power.

将心比心

〈申命记〉 24:22  你也要记念你在埃及地做过奴仆，所以我吩咐你这样行。

阅读经文：〈申命记〉 24:10-22

神对穷人的眷顾，为何不是赐给他们钱财或好运，让他们都能脱离窘境，反而是希望别人在他们有需要时去帮助他人呢？神不是没有能力，为何不让世界变成一个均富的世界呢？假如这个世界里，大家拥有的都一样多，那么会不会减少很多问题？神起初造伊甸园时，祂的用意是想让人都能享受祂的创造，但是一旦罪进入世界，人的贪念和罪性就颠覆了神原先的理想。神没有立刻挪去人的贪念和罪性，但是祂却让人在这个充满贪念和私欲的世界里学习彼此相爱，从他人的需要里看到自己的责任，让人明白若不按神的教导度日，人终会自己灭了自己。

我想，神要我们明白，人若不彼此帮助，就没有希望。所以祂允许贫穷的存在。贫穷代表了人的软弱，人的有限；某些人的贫穷反映出某些人的贪婪和榨取。所以要使人回复正常心，就必须让人学习付出，活出神的形像。当我们来到神面前时，祂总是怜悯帮助；因此当有人需要我们的帮助时，我们也必须用神的爱去爱他们。

在上一章里，神说若是取人当头，不可拿人家的上下磨石，因为那是他们维生的工具。若是没了磨石，他们连吃饭的工具都没有了，从何有力气去赚钱来还你呢？因此怜悯别人，就是帮助自己。你想拿回人家借去的钱，那么你就帮助他们有赚钱谋生的机会，他们有钱不就可以还你了吗？岂不皆大欢喜。你若苛扣别人，让别人谋生不易，那么你就不要存著拿回钱的希望。因为你阻挡了人家的生路，就是阻挡了自己的生路。这就是神要让我们明白的，帮助别人就是帮助自己。
